Hi! My name is Katie Jackson and I'm here at Studio Bleu Dance Center in Ashburn, Virginia. Today, I'm going to teach you how to jazz dance. We're going to learn how to do a Regular Leap, a Side Leap, a Leap Turn, a Calypso Leap Turn, a Switch Leap, a Pirouette Turn, Fouette Turns and a La Seconde Turns.
Now when doing Jazz, there is a few things you might need to have. You're going to need a pair of jazz shoes. You can wear what I have or they make a boot that slips on. They come in black or tan and it does not matter the color. You can wear something similar to what I have on. You can come in the shorts or sweatpants and a t-shirt, but make sure it's something that you definitely move in, no jeans.
Now when doing jazz, there is a few safety precautions that you need to know about. It's best to dance in a room like we have. You have enough room to move around. Also the Marley floor helps tremendously. It's not slippery, but it has a little bit of traction for when you turn.
I wouldn't recommend turning on concrete outside, your kitchen floor or hardwood floors. The concrete, you'll stick. Two, your kitchen floor and your hardwood floor, you may slip and fall and that may cause some injuries.
Now that I've told you a little bit about what to wear and your safety precautions, now I think you need to know a little bit about me. My name is Katie Albright and I'm a dance instructor here at Studio Bleu Dance dancer. We have a dance center in Ashburn, Virginia and in Sterling, Virginia. I teach kids as young as 18 months all the way up to adults and I've been teaching for the past seven years. I teach anything from jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical palm, musical theatre and a little bit of hip hop.
So, now that I've told you a little bit about myself; why don't you come and join me and learn how to jazz dance?
