David: Hi, I am David Epstein welcome to Growing Wisdom. It is the great time of the year time many of you will be going out and choosing your Christmas trees and we are here at Weston Nurseries with Henry Patt. Henry tell me about the different types of trees that available to most tom owners.
Henry: Basically there are two main types one is your traditional Balsam Fir they have the wonder sent when you walk in the home. The Fraser Fir they do not have as much of the smell and they tend to hold the needles a little bit longer than the Balsam if they want to it after long time they might be better out going with the Fraser.
If it just to the Holidays and they doing this near the Christmas time then the Balsam might be the better choice if they love the nice smell. One not to common but the soul here is called the White Fir has a longer needle a little more bluish in color of the white fir is one free that people are on allergic too.
David: Well, that is really great I like because it is a little bit bluer.
Henry: Right.
David: And it is a little more compact that it is not as losses the other one.
Henry: Right.
David: So, Henry what should I asked somebody to do to the tree after I purchase that to be sure that is you know really ready in the home it is going to be the last as long as possible is really that is the trick.
Henry: The basic thing you got to remember is this tree has been cut two or three or four weeks prior as we sale this is healed over.
David: So, no water is going to be suck into this.
Henry: It is very important to get water going out to keep the needles on for the holiday. Therefore we want to do the fresh cut we can also take off the branches if they wish to have the branches cut off. Most stands have like standard point and that is the anchor so the tree does not move. Most stands they have three points or three screws that you screw in with that point in the center.
That is kind a critical to get the tree buck right on top of it.
David: Okay.
Henry: Usually if you just pushed it down and that is enough force to keep it there but if you have a little bit of a whole drill a little let help a little more.
David: So, then you would fill this with water.
Henry: Correct, that would fill with up probably leave about a half inch down some trees what they need a lot of moisture they suck that water up very quickly and you want to check it, I only check them morning and night.
David: Alright, well Henry thank you very much great time of the year just a beautiful tree.
