Bea: I have heard that Toronto CN tower uses all natural weed and pest control products in their gardens and public walkways. All natural sounds great. Well I am here to find out if it really works. Let us check it out. Hi Lisa!
Lisa: Hi Bea.
Bea: Your gardens look gorgeous again this year but I am really curious to know how you control the weeds and the bugs.
Lisa: Well, certainly weed and pest control is important to maintain the health of our gardens. It is very important for what we do down here, and very important for all of what we do up in our revolving restaurants, 360, the restaurant at the CN Tower. We grow a lot of our own herbs in these gardens and so pest control is important and being a property in the city of Toronto, we really want to use alternative pest control products.
Bea: Alternative! Do they work?
Lisa: Well they do and they are getting better all the time but do not take my word forward, I am not really the expert. Why do we not ask Glen.
Glenn: Hey.
Lisa: Glen can you tell Bea what this alternative products are and how they work.
Glenn: Sure, I would love to.
Bea: So, what is it made of and how does it work?
Glenn: Acetic acid, it is a fast acting nonselective weed control product. It will kill grass and weeds on hard surface like patios and driveways. I really like this one. It is made from vinegar, lemon juice and you will start to see results within hours after applying it.
Bea: Wow! That is fast. I really like this logo “care today, benefit tomorrow.” But what about slugs, I want to keep them away from my tomato plants?
Glenn: Try this one Bea. This is a great slug and snail bates. It is made from little pieces of pasta ferric phosphate on. It will stay effective even in the rainfall and best of all it would not harm your pets and wildlife.
Bea: But what about the other bugs.
Glenn: Well for those, there is a great way to use insecticide that is made from canola oil and chrysanthemum flowers and it controls bugs like aphids, white flies and mites through all their stages of development. So, it reduces the chance of them reinfesting your plants.
Bea: That is incredible. Is there anything we could do for our lawn?
Lisa: There is an old natural lawn fertilizer. It is made from things like feather meal, bone meal and Chilean nitrate and it will provide for a thinker healthier green lawn which will make your lawn more resistant to weeds and to drought and less insect problems and best of all it safe for use around pets and children.
Bea: So, a healthier lawn means less pest problems, makes sense.
