Hello, I’m Steven Phillips host of Great Cocktails.
Shaking or stirring is the cocktail question of the ages. But does it really matter, well, yeah, it kind it does. Here is a few techniques that will shake things up at your next party.
Sure it looks cool but why don’t we shake a cocktail. Well that is simple, you take your ingredients from room temperature down to a more drinkable degree shaking a cocktail over ice also dilutes the drinks which is a good thing. And most recipes are actually design for that.
To get a proper chill and the right amount of dilution in about 20 or 30 seconds should do it and then strain into a chilled glass.
A shaking cocktail often has chips of ice floating on top of it, if you’d rather not crunch in your cocktail stirring your drink in a mixing glass is the way to go again 20 or 30 seconds should do it then strain into a chill glass.
For drinks that are served over ice, you still want to chill your ingredients before you pour the drink. Warm ingredient sitting on ice will lead to a one watery beverage, so you can either shake or stir and then strain over fresh ice into the serving glass.
For drinks like on Mojito use your ice to keep your modeling ingredients at the bottom. Muddle and fill your glass with ice now shake the rest of your ingredients until that chills and then we strain over ice. Now we stir, little tricks like this will keep the mint out of your teeth and a smile on your face, cheers folks.
