Hi this is English teacher Fred in Vietnam. How are you today? I thought today I would talk about the alphabet. Something very important to know, it’s very important to know the alphabet. You know the alphabet? A, B, C, D, E, F, G. When you’re a langue learner you spend a lot of time with dictionaries. The dictionary becomes your best friend.
I study Vietnamese because I live here in Vietnam so I have a lot of Dictionaries here’s my English Vietnamese Dictionary and what else to have a English. English Vietnamese Dictionary and a big, big Vietnamese English Dictionary and then another one here’s a small one a small Vietnamese English Dictionary for when I go out I can put this one in my pocket. You can see it’s very old and actually it looks pretty bad.
This dictionary has spend a lot of time in my pocket and in café’s and on the street here in Ho Chi Minh City as an English student you also confined that a lot of other kinds of dictionaries like here’s a keyword dictionary. This is a very interesting dictionary there’s many kinds, there’s Learner’s dictionaries and idiom dictionaries. Your dictionary becomes your best friend. You spend a lot of time looking at words so you need to learn the alphabet very early in your English language studies.
And also learning the alphabet is very important because when you are speaking with somebody and you don’t really understand what are they saying or they don’t understand what you are saying then you can spell the word to make sure that you understand each other like when I introduce my self to English class I usually say hello, my name is Fred it’s spelled F-r-e-d you know so people are sure what I’m saying and if you are not sure what another person is saying then you can ask them how do you spell that and then they can spell the word and then you can be sure you have the word correct.
So learning the alphabet is very important. Why don’t we just say the alphabet right now. There’s a certain way that I like to say the alphabet that makes it a little easier to remember because if you try to remember the alphabet just from beginning to end straight ahead like A B C D E F G H I J — it’s easy to get lost and difficult to remember but if you break the alphabet into small pieces then it makes it easier to remember it’s more like a song or a story. So here listen and I tell you how I like to say the alphabet, are you ready?
You can repeat after me also say a-b-c-d e-f-g h-i-j k l-m-n-o-p q-r-s t-u-v w-x-y-z it’s in little pieces. Let’s say it again a-b-c-d e-f-g h-i-j k l-m-n-o-p q-r-s t-u-v w-x-y-z. Now I’ll say that a little bit faster a-b-c-d e-f-g h-i-j k l-m-n-o-p q-r-s t-u-v w-x-y-z. I hope it makes it a little easier for you to remember.
Shall we do it one more time why not. Here we go, a-b-c-d e-f-g h-i-j k l-m-n-o-p q-r-s t-u-v w-x-y-z. That middle part can go over very fast. l-m-n-o-p. The last letter z is z in American English so because I’m American I say z but a British person a person from England would say zed so z zed they’re the same.
Okay I think that’s enough for this short video I hope that‘s helpful for you come buy my website it’s called ActiveEnglishonline.com. and also I have an English club the English club is called ActiveEnglish.ning.com Now I’ll spell some of those words. Active, a-c-t-i-v-e Active English Club. Club is c-l-u-b. Ning n-i-n-g.com. ActiveEnglishClub.ning.com.
