this guy is not that smart. throughout the video he is holding his hand just inches away from the 4,000F reaction, and at the end it says to be safe. I wouldn't want to be within 5 feet of that reaction.

How to Light Thermite

--has a very high ignition temperature so it can be ignited with a flame, just things that burn a lot hotter and the most common is magnesium. You can get magnesium in science stores and on eBay and are chunks of magnesium in camping and industrial stores. Magnesium can also be difficult to ignite and in case of magnesium ribbon, you can with a flame. In my case, I will be using magnesium shavings and mixing them with a mixture of black powder that you can get from polyrocket engines or open shells and I am igniting the gun powder with a lighter, the black powder ignites magnesium and the magnesium ignites the thermite! You can get magnesium—I will also show you with a sparkler. Some sparklers can burn hot enough to light the thermite, but they do need to be held in the thermite mixture longer in order for it to heat up!
