Christine: You are—segment of what matters most, Dieter Powells is a life coach who helps people help themselves, whether it’s in business or personal areas of their lives and today Dieter, our topic is passion.
Dieter: Passion is born out of a commitment to bring a more of who you are into the work you do, into your relationships at home and your career.
Christine: There's a current sort of paradigm that people can operate from, is there not right now, most people, not everyone, but like doing, having and being, what do you mean?
Dieter: Well we focus so much on doing and we think if we do certain things that we can have certain things, allowing us to be certain. A certain way like be happy. What if we change the paradigm around and we start from being more of who we are so we can bring more of who we are into what we do, so we can have anything we want and attract the things we believe on in our lives.
Christine: Oh okay so you just sort of flip it around?
Dieter: If we change—yeah if we turn this around, it opens up a whole new world of possibility.
Christine: Well you know one person who loved baseball besides the gentleman that was here earlier was my dad, Jack Falke and you know he lived for baseball and it was truly his passion. And because it was such a passion of his, I think he really did attract a lot of people to the game because he worked at it, because it was his passion.
Dieter: What a great example of passion as an attractive, I mean he attracted millions of people to the game of baseball.
Christine: Because he loved it so much that it was in every word that he ever said about baseball.
Dieter: I read this morning and one of the articles I read about him, someone said he did his work with heart and it’s hard to describe, well that’s passion. Passion is a quality of the heart and wove that passion in so many people.
Christine: Well how do we get there?
Dieter: A couple of thing, first is, and this is not some new age thing.
Christine: Right.
Dieter: Know yourself, understand yourself, your values, your belief systems, your qualities, your talents. People don’t like to talk about talents because they think it’s egocentric or selfish but it’s about being responsible and—
Christine: Make decisions based on that.
Dieter: Yeah, make decision based on what makes you unique. If you think about it Christine, no one has your DNA.
Christine: That’s for sure. But you're right. We’re all individuals.
Dieter: If we wake up with that mentality that nobody is just like you, the only thing we want to do is to express more of who we are. I mean passion is just ignited into our lives.
Christine: And Dieter, with almost everything that we talked about, the final one is you have to take action or nothing is going to happen.
Dieter: Absolutely. I'm not saying you have to switch careers immediately. You can start tapping into that passion, you know in small steps. You got to do something, you know, you got to take action towards the stuff that we really want.
Christine: Maybe everyday a little something—thank you, thanks for joining us and we’ll see you Friday.
