Nina Sebastiane: Welcome back to Baby Talk, now joining me in the studio is Baby Channel celebrity reporter Sophie Vokes Dudgeon, welcome to the show. So it is me or it's the whole world having a baby at the moment.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: But definitely it seems to be a bit of a baby boom and celebrity baby boom certainly, the magazines that are usually full of how to look slim, how to look perfect as a celebrity and now full of how to accessory your bump and how to-
Nina Sebastiane: I thought it was just something about getting older and perhaps it was being now I have children of my own.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: Noticing it I know that's what I have thought but I have been talking to a lot my other celebrity reporter friends you are pregnant because definitely I think that I have started picking up on it more. And they say no, I think everyone who is famous is having baby even the young ones even the Britney Spears, they are all popping them out.
Nina Sebastiane: It's definitely it's the in thing so Sophie not only are you on the money in terms of our celebrity reporter but you are on the money because you are expecting a child. It's great I like to see that you - anything on the pulse but you sort of follow the trend as well.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: That's right I think.
Nina Sebastiane: So let's go through some of the things that are out and around at the moment and specifically how to keep yourself looking good when you are pregnant. There is quite a few celebrities using special products isn't that?
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: I think the nice thing or the reason I got particularly interested in it obviously once I was pregnant myself I wants to know what the stars were doing because they do have all the money and the wealth all the freebies in the world they have access to the best gurus the experts. So you know that the things that they are doing are perhaps things that I might like to do but perhaps cant afford to do all of them, but it's nice to have a look at some of the things they are doing and adaptive of our pocket. So one the things that particularly interested me was stretch marks I think as soon as you get pregnant you start worrying about that.
Nina Sebastiane: Everybody does, I don't believe that you can be pregnant and not have stretch marks, I don't care who you are. So please help.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: And there is definitely there is that age old debate whether it's just inherited or whether you can put all the lotions and potions on your tummy can make a difference. But celebrities have this worry times of hundred because they now the minute they are back in the bikini, there's going to be Paparazzi stuck up the palm trees, trying to get the picture of their flabby -- off to it. So they have got a lot of pressure. So some of the celebrities go to the extreme, we have got Uma Thurman and Kelly Preston who is John Travolta's wife, rubbing Crème de la Mer on their stomachs.
Nina Sebastiane: Now, this is the really expensive stuff, isn't it?
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: It's super expensive. You can get it in Harrods and in a few places over here now, it started off they were developed actually by a NASA scientist and NASA physician who was very badly burned and trying to find a good way to moisturize his skin. So he has got science behind, it is based on C-kelp but it is something it's about 100 pounds for the cheapest smallest part and they are roughing it all over their bellies everyday, but a slightly cheaper option is bio oil which is a -- you can get it in boots it's 15 pounds about this big. So it's still a little more expensive.
Nina Sebastiane: And what you do is you just slap it on. I used olive oil, that was the thing I would put on.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: Well it's along the same it's along the same line it's an oil and it's an natural oil based thing and one the one benefit over olive oil is it has this thing called Purcellin oil which enables other oils like olive oil and even lavender oil and cologne oil to actually penetrate the skin apparently. Now Gabby Logan was carrying twins so she was obviously had doubled the trouble and she used it and she looks fabulous now and apparently it has worked for her according to POs that I spoken to.
Nina Sebastiane: Bio oil is the one to look out for.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: And the other benefit as well as that you can use it on your face so you don't have to also invest in a very expensive face cream because it's not greasy and it does make you feel horrible at that.
Nina Sebastinae: Because it doesn't sound great, I have to say I don't think I would want to slap that on my face but.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: But yeah now it is quite good often I have to admit, I have been using it myself and.
Nina Sebasitane: Now what about some of the other sort of strange things that I have been hearing about, one of things that Gwyneth Paltrow was reportedly doing was with her pregnancy was actually avoiding certain foods.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: That's right now Gwyneth has a very macrobiotic diet anyway; she eats a lots of beans and pluses and brown rice. But when she first got pregnant I was delighted to see stuffing her face with chips and cheese toasties, it was a real quite a nice sight of Gwyneth, folding off her macrobiotic wagon, but towards the end of her pregnancy she consulted Dr. Gary Motha who suggests that for the last couple of months you avoid sugar wheat and gluten. The idea behind it which is interesting is anything that's going to make you particularly fat so sticky and there are lot sort of things with full oil things that you are not suppose to be eating is also going to make your baby big, the bigger your baby the harder it's going to be
Nina Sebastiane: You see I am sorry, okay may be bigger the baby the harder to, but it's the only time in your life you are allow to get away with eating ten donuts in a row and you know the problem with that being is.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: I found it impossible I spoke to the birth -- and I was like this sounds like a good idea and usually I am quite good at eating healthfully. The last as you approach birth all you like to do is stuff your face full of ice cream and chocolates and I think it's absolutely impossible but Gwyneth did it and it was quite large actually and she just have to have a C section also with her second child. So maybe it's not the outside --
Nina Sebastiane: So may be it didn't work, may be it didn't work who knows. One of the other sort of things that obviously celebs have got time and budget to do is massage and pampering, who has been opted that.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: Well Reese Witherspoon was over in London I was reporting on her few years ago when she was pregnant with her second child and we always assume that the celebrities have a very easy life but actually when you are filming and she was filming about five or six months pregnant, they work very long hours and we are talking sort of eighteen hour days, but don't have days off she would book into Elemis in the center of time just off Bond Street and go and have pregnancy massages there and they have a mother to be massage while you sort of flip over beam bags you are not actually, you are able to be slightly follow what you know put that too much pressure on your bump. And have great massages and it just gets rid of those aches and pains that being on your feet too much and that really you can starting getting uncomfortable.
Nina Sebastiane: Now the other thing that we have touched on as well a little bit earlier in this show is baby mooning the celebrities are going away having these fantastic sort of last patches or last bashes or last hurrahs I think are in you said earlier before the baby comes and that's becoming all of that, isn't it. Who is been up to that?
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: Well interestingly the celebrities have been doing this for quite a while I can guess this as you say because they have got the money and the time no less exactly, but I think it is a great idea that when Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin went to Mexico when they were pregnant with Apple and then when they were pregnant with Apple's little brother Moses they went back to Mexico to the same place they took Apple with them but I think it took some child care help as well. So that was delightful to have a romantic evening. But it is nice just to remove yourself I think from the stress and the strain of everyday life, just have that little bit of space. Angelina Jolie and Brat Pit did the same and actually rather down to earth, well perhaps not that down to earth way, but they went to Berlin just for a long weekend because.
Nina Sebastiane: A bit closer to home.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: Exactly and easy little city break. Usually Maddox and Zahara travel everywhere with them so it was quite unusual for them to leave the babies behind, but they just went to a few galleries had some nice meals out and things like that, they didn't mysteriously stay in the presidential suite of one of the swankiest hotels in Berlin [Cross Talk]
Nina Sebastiane: You don't have to, you can't do it on a budget, I am sure you can get those costly airlines flying, I am sure they did do the same. But yeah I mean it's becoming over age isn't it. But what can you do if your momma home, watching this, thinking, a fancy doing something to pamper myself and what sort of thinking can the average mom do?
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: Yes personally I have been suffering a bit with swollen extremities as I get towards the end of my pregnancy and this is something that Britney Spears suffered from and she is splashed out on the Bella Mama salts that you put in a big foot bath and it brings down your swelling, but you and I could just go to our local pharmacy and pick out some Epsom Salts because they do exactly the same job, they just bring down the swelling make you feel a bit more comfortable. Kate Winslet had some great advice as well. She was pregnant with her second child in the middle of summer. It was absolutely boiling. Her advice was to get a baby paddling pool, wear a pair of knickers, the few that was still -- towards the end of your pregnancy sit outside in your baby paddling pool and eat ice cream.
Nina Sebastiane: With your first born and of course playing in the pool while you keep the feet nice and clean. That's sound great.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: And that's the sort of advice that money can't buy.
Nina Sebastiane: And you know everybody can afford a baby paddling pool and little bit of cold water and dunking your feet and that sounds perfect. Now the other thing that I found interesting looking through the magazines is that the baby must haves that are around one of which is the baby must have bugging the bucket boo. In a standard issue rated seems to me or may be the black now.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: Well it has started off as the frog didn't it, and now we have progressed to the chameleon and the gecko as two bugabies but the celebrities are still pushing them, so it's got to be something I have to admit I just pulled out myself yeah. [cross talk] you could buy a car with that.
Nina Sebastiane: But then -- I suppose in your mother's day it was the Rolls Royce have all the buggies was the silver spurs - a bunch of them are still around and they are still gorgeous as well but people seem to just pushing the bugabie everywhere don't they.
Sophie Vokes Dudgeon: I know and who do I start with I think it started back in the day that Apple was born when a few years ago now, but it's just the trend is got bigger and bigger and everyone keeps bringing out new buggies might take over from bugabie but still the proprietary shots cant we have Paul McCartney, he is pushing his little one around in a bugabie, you got Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck got a bugabie --
Nina Sebastiane: Everybody is asking, everybody has got one. Sophie thank you so much for coming and sharing the latest celebrity gossips, I will sure see you again soon.
