Yo! Today we are starting a brand new series of videos, I want to call them the missing links. And the reason why I am calling them the missing links is because these are the various aspects and components of health that kind of fly under the radar. And what I mean by that is that when we go to the doctor and we present them a particular symptom, the doctor tends to most of the time just treat us at a symptom level. They tend to forget about or not address the things that may be lurking underneath that cause of those symptoms to arise in the first place.
Or let's say we are overweights and we go to your personal trainer or we go to your dietitian, the personal trainer usually addresses the fitness component of things and the dietitian just looks at the diet part of it, but they may not be educated on the other systems that may be malfunctioning and causing your weight gain. And so today what we are going to do is like an introductory kind of kick off video to kind of show you one of my basic models that I call the Iceberg model.
And so when you think about a Iceberg, if you can imagine being out on a ship out on the ocean somewhere and you come upon a Iceberg and you see this big huge mass of ice above the water and you tend to being an are of what you see. But we often tend to forget about the huge mass of ice that's lurking underneath and so this is kind of analogous to our medical model and so as I said earlier and you go to the doctor and you have got symptoms.
And so the symptoms are the tip of our Iceberg and what the doctor usually does is if they don't send you home saying that nothing is wrong with you when obviously there is because you wouldn't have been in their in the first place the doctor will give you some type of drug, some type of pill and what that pill does is what it's going to do, it's going to saw off the tip of the Iceberg, saws that deal of and so you don't have that anymore, well at the same time you still have the conditions lurking beneath that caused those symptoms to arise.
Now one of those symptoms that can go out of wack in order to cause that tip of the Iceberg to peak above the water, we have got hormones, we have got the immune system, of course we have got the diet which is probably the most important thing here and we have talked a lot about that we have got the detoxification system and we have got the GI system and GI is just another way of saying the gastric and intestinal system or the digestive system. And so over the next couple of weeks we are going to be talking mostly about the hormonal system. Hormones are extremely important and actually what is a hormone? Most people don't know what is a hormone. A hormone is a chemical messenger that tells your cells what they need to be doing. It says hey cell, you need to do this and the cell does and that cell is going to keep you healthy.
However if your hormones are unbalanced and they are usually unbalance these days because we are under so much stress, then you are going to have problems as you are going to have loss of sex drive, you are going to have weight gain and you are going to have weight gain because when your hormones are unbalance if you are making cortisol which is a stress hormone and not enough DHEA, if you have that unbalance then you are not going to be able to regulate your blood sugar properly, you are going to loose some thyroid function okay and so those who are going to make you again gain weight.
So that's one of those underline issues that we tend to forget about in terms of weight gain. It's also going to impair your memory alright it's going to impair your immunity and so your immunity is another system here. We have something called our mucosal barrier and that's the mucosal barrier and it's kind of like our second skin. And what it does is that it protects from the various bacteria and pathogens that can invade in our body.
Now a god way to compromise that second skin is to have an imbalanced hormonal system. And then a way to imbalance your hormonal system, even more than it is, is to have a compromising immune system, because a compromised immune system can stress out your body which makes your hormonal system become more and more imbalanced okay. And so it's like I got a vicious cycle going on with the immune system and the hormonal system.
Of course we got the GI tract the digestive system which we have talked a lot about. Now that's going to be your ability to absorb the food that you get through your diet among other things so you can have the best diet, but if you are not absorbing those nutrients, then you have got a problem and so we want to make sure your hydrochloric acid is right. We want to make sure your digestive enzyme is alright, we want to make sure that you are going poo regularly and getting the stuff out of your body that you are detoxifying getting the bad stuff out which brings us to the detoxification system alright.
If you are not getting the bad stuff out of your body, your body becomes toxic and then if you think about it when you go to the doctor and they give you drugs, those drugs are chemicals and so what your body has to do is detoxify those chemical by way of the liver to kidneys to skin and the coldness. So our liver and our kidneys are already to coldness because of all the chemicals that are coming in from our environment into our food and then you add the drugs on top of that, now we have got a huge problem because that causes more stress to the body which is further going to impair our hormonal system which is further going to repair our immune system.
Alright and so we are going to talk in to future about liver enzymes and what not because liver enzymes test will actually show up positive when your liver function is about 60% of capacity alright and so we are going to go into that and of course we have gone over diet and so we got to get all of this stuff right. We want to make sure that we test and we do some detective work and find out what's going on beneath the surface and this takes a lot work, this is something that you are not going to be able to figure out in the 5,6,7, minutes with your doctor, this require like I say a lot of detective work.
So these are things that we are going to be learning about over this next few weeks. How to strengthen all of these so we can avoid having these.
