Raena Morgan: I’m visiting with Dr. Marian Verbruggen. She works with the Frutarum Health and we’re talking about soy life, soybeans and the health benefits. Could you tell us about the isoflavones called Diazden.
Dr. Verbruggen: In soy you have three main isoflavones so it’s genistin, daidzin, and glycitin and in the soy germ by nature again the daidzin is very high it’s 50% to 60% of the isoflavone is present and the soy germ is diadzin. And in the past we didn’t know how to distinguish between the three isoflavone forms so they were just collected as one big group to show the health benefits. But now a days you can distinguish a bit more and recently actually shows that the diadzin portion is especially entrust in providing bone health.
Raena Morgan: Oh really?
Dr. Verbruggen: So the diadzin has been converted in your body to be effective, to become effective diadzin as it is. They’ll have an effect but it can be converted into a metabolite equal and equal as more potent and it’s settled now to pose now that this equal metabolite is the active isoflavone for bone health.
Raena Morgan: And so these three isoflavones contribute to bone health.
Dr. Verbruggen: They all contribute to bone health but for diadzin that seems to be a special effect.
Raena Morgan: More than the genistin?
Dr. Verbruggen: More than the genistin, yes.
Raena Morgan: And what was the other one, glycitin.
Dr. Verbruggen: Glycitin.
Raena Morgan: But the three together are very potent.
Dr. Verbruggen: They are potent, yes.
Raena Morgan: And so for women going to menopause who are experiencing bone thinning the diadzin would be very potent for them?
Dr. Verbruggen: Yes. It’s a very important isoflavone for them for bone health.
Raena Morgan: Thank you Dr. Verbruggen.
Dr. Verbruggen: You’re welcome.
