Hi, I’m Bobby from Atlanta, Georgia. Today, I am going to be fixing one hour butter milk rolls, a very simple recipe, very simple to fix but they are delicious.
Well, the first thing we are going to need to do is pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees. Okay, we are going to butter our muffins pan now. This recipe calls for 18 rolls. It’s very simple. I’m just going to cut out a little salt and butter here. I like to do it with my hands in a very special way. Now we have a muffin pans right here. We are going to mixing our ingredients.
First we are going to start off with two one quarter ounce, one fourth ounce packages of active dry yeast and we are going to mix it with one fourth cup of hot water preferably about 118 or 120, warm but not really hot. Now that we have our yeast dissolved, we are going to add our next five ingredients, one and a half cup of buttermilk and it’s important that the buttermilk be at room temperature because we are using active yeast and you want to shock it with cold substances.
Now we are going to add three tablespoons of sugar, one teaspoon of salt, a half teaspoon of baking soda and a half a cup of vegetable shortening. Now we are going to add four and a half cups of all-purpose flour and we are going to add this one cup at a time, mixing it in until we have a smooth dough consistency and we have this is a nice dough consistency. It’s a little getting tacky there, set this off the side, you got this big, clean marble surface that we’re going to spread out some flour on that was cleaned of. I like using my marble surface. It’s smooth, and won’t stick on this.
So I’m going to take some flour. Now we are going to knead this with the flour for about 18 minutes because you want to give it good and kneaded out. It’s nice, delicious, get a good consistency going for a nice delicious buttermilk roll. That is great at Thanksgiving and sometimes really hard to get in store because they sell out. So now you know how to do it, a simple one hour recipe and we will let that stand for about ten minutes.
Now that are done and set for ten minutes and sip it and kneaded out there a little bit, we are going to cut it into 18 pieces, put it in to our muffin pans and we are going to take each single piece for each muffin and then take it, break in into three pieces, roll it into a ball and drop it into the pan depending on how the weather is and climate and the temperature you’re at will determine how will they rise. Sometime they rise pretty good and sometimes just a little bit. Let this stay for about 30 minutes and as you see they’re raising a good bit here like double than that size which is good and then we are going to come back and cooked them at 400 degrees for about 18 to 20 minutes.
