Okay, so I’m going to go ahead and clean this up and then we’re going to paint him and put some hair on him and we’ll have our false face mask.
Okay, I cleaned up the area little bit so we don’t get all that balsa foam dust in our paint and you may want to—if you’re working on this in the house, you may want to go outside and just you know, blow off all the excess dust.
And I’ve got my red paint and my black paint already. It’s acrylic. And I think I’m going to paint him all red, do his mouth black and then use white hair on him. So, on the real false face masks, they actually use horse hair, the tails. And you’ll see some of them with a white tail, you know, for the hair or black tail, they’ll use.
Okay, so we can start up here. Now the acrylic paint is going to help to seal in a lot of that dust because it dries—well it’s a plastic product so it actually dries like a thin coating of plastic over the entire mask. I’ll be using a teeny tiny little brush to get in just above the lip.
And then you’re going to want to turn your mask and look at it at different angles and make sure that you painted down inside those face, okay. Now I’m going to let this dry for a couple of minutes so that we can do the black and the silver. So while we’re waiting for that to dry, I’m going to go ahead and get my yarn ready and of course you can make the hair as long as you want. I’m thinking, you know, like that. Now my suggestion is that you take a little piece of yarn and you’re going to tie it around the center of this bundle here and it can just be hidden underneath when you go to hot glue this down which is what we’re going to do when everything’s dry, we’re going to hot glue this on the top his head and let the hair hang down.
Okay, the red’s pretty dry so we’re going to go ahead and paint the black, the mouth. If you’re trying to paint a straight edge, the best way to do that is to let the brush do the work for you and you paint in the same direction that you’re trying to make the line go. In other words, don’t paint into it like this because then you’re going to get all kinds of little fuzzy lines there. You want to paint the same direction like I’m doing right now and let the edge of the brush do the work and you’ll get these nice, clean edges.
Okay, and now I’m going to go ahead and do the silver eyes with a silver paint marker because we need to be able to reflect away those diseases. And I’m going to put some little tiny dots here so it looks like the metal has been hammered on. These are supposed to be like a little nail heads and then I may have to go back and touch up those two little areas. Okay, there we go.
Now, the very last thing is to hot glue the hair that we’ve got on top of the head so and I’ll so ahead and get some hot glue on top of the foam and hold it. There’s the hair there and there we have our false face mask. And now the next time you’re brother of sister get sick, you can take out your false face mask and go ahead and see if you can heal the ailments of the head, neck, and shoulders. Have fun.
