Welcome to tinkernut.com’s video cast. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at Edmund@tinkernut.com.
In this video I am going to show you how you can set up an FTP server from behind a router. And w are going to be using free software for this so the free software we are going to use is found at www.crossftp.com and it is very simple to install and use. Just click on the green start server now button and let it watch and that is pretty much it.
Now from the menu to the left select users to add a user, I am just going to create one called tinkernut and now I am going to select the directory that I want to share. I am just going to share my music folder and you can also if you want add write permission so that the users can add stuff. And then just click save and now if I go up to my browser and type in FTP and then my computer’s IP address and then port 21. Now I can type in the user name and password I created and view the directory that I have just shared.
So now to access this from behind a router, just type in your router’s IP address and find the option that says port forwarding. And then just add a new port to forward to, I am going to call this one “My FTP” and the port that we are going to forward to by default is 21 and then I am going to type in my computers IP address and click apply.
So now all you have to do is type in your main IP address which you can find it www.whatsmyip.org:21 and now, you should be able to access your FTP server from any way.
All right, that is it for this tutorial. For more, go to tinkernut.com.
