This is basically a very good barbecue sauce. I used it a lot. But I am going to show you how to make your own version of this. And basically we can create a recipe. The basis for barbecue sauce recipe that you can use anywhere and modify in anyway you like to your particular test.
First thing we’re going to do is get some vegetable oil or I prefer to use little extra virgin olive oil at times. Put it in a hot pan and we’re going to use a little chopped onion. And we’re just going to sauté those until it gets soft. In the mean time we could chop a little garlic which we’re going to add. Use about six cloves. And we just want this stuff tom soften up nicely. So then we add our tomato sauce so it blends in. There are two estimated barbecue sauce. You need a base ingredient. One way to do is that ketchup, and that’s perfectly fine. I’m going to use regular crashed tomatoes, they are a little thicker, give you more of a robust consistency. And we’re just going to add this with the puree, let some of that pop. And we’re just going to stir that up.
So, right now you’re looking at this and saying, “I feel like making a spaghetti sauce” which is basically what you’re doing until we add our barbecue ingredients? They are primarily chili powder. I’m just going to add about two teaspoons of this, cayenne pepper we are going to add one teaspoon, and we are going to add one teaspoon of onion powder. So, we are going t mix our dry ingredients in here and you can see that the chili powder is going to slowly create the appearance of traditional barbecue sauce and in fact if you’re not browning up nicely, you’re going to want to add just a little bit more chili powder. And this is a mild variety, I’m going to add a tablespoon more and let that mix. So, what else goes in the barbecue sauce? Something sweet, it can be sugar, often times brown sugar. I am going to use a little molasses. If you're using molasses, I’d recommend for one can of tomatoes using about two to three tablespoons depending on how sweet you like it, if you’re using brown sugar, I’d use about 1/3 of a cup. Molasses is very, very strong and very, very sweet.
Another way to add sweetness, I am going to put a little of this in and use honey. And then you can add one to two tablespoons of honey as well. Sometimes a way to cheat on spice a little to add a little franks—we have our other Tabasco sauce. Five to 10 squirts for test it’s equivalent to about a tablespoon. What we have is very chunky barbecue sauce. Now, if you are serving a grilled chicken wing, you can put this on the side and use it for dipping and it is very nice sauce. You can apply it directly to chicken and all honesty, what I like to do is take a hand blender, I am going to go right and serve the sauce while it is hot. Blend it up so we have a nice smooth sauce. You can let it simmer down for about 20 minutes if you want basically the onions to get very soft and the garlic to blend into the sauce and all the spices to come together.
