Hi! I am Kathleen and today I am making beignets. I want to make something special for my Mom for Mother’s Day.
So, now I am going to put 2 quarters of cup water into the bowl. Then I am going to make some yeast. So now, we mix it. We are going to put it on unlit oven. Now, that we have our yeast in the oven. We are going to mix the sugar, the shortening, and the salt with the boiling water.
First, the shortening then the boiling water takes forever in the day, so I cheat and I am putting into the microwave for a vitamin. So now, the water is boiled we are going to put it into this bowl. Then we are going to mix. The thing about this you do not add the shortening to be clump. We’re going to chop it up to a very thin pieces. We will see what happens later. It is only thing is bubbly rising a bit. We are end up putting the yeast into this bowl or you have to make sure that this mixture is lukewarm or out are useful. So now, that our mixture is go down a bit we are going to add the heavy cream, the egg, and the yeast. It is all have drawn out when you mix this out and we are going to add flour quarter cup add at a time. So the idea is not to get your dough sticky making your dough smooth not sticky. You make sure that you use all the flour in the bowl. Or you can do is you can start using your fingers which I can guess the best part.
Now if the dough is ready, we are going over to the pastry board I am does pastry board down with flour. We are going to put a little bit of flour on the board. Now, you do not want put to much flour on the board or else your Beignets will taste like flour and you really do not want. You will put a little bit flour on your hands and roll them up and down your rolling. So now, we are going to take the dough and we are ready to roll out the yeast. The thing about the dough is, that you do not want a mash of it too much roll or to get really tough Beignets which you do not want. You want it nice and softy. So, you are going to roll out the dough just want to make sure that is about quarter of an inch think. Now, that you have been here rolling this on, we get to start cutting. What are you going to do is you are going to push down and make lines on your dough. You do not have to make perfect squares you cut easy enough to eat slices. Now, that we your bite size beignets let us go over to the oil and get to fry. Do not forget your confectioners sugar, so we need to put about two to three inches of oil into your pan. Use your spatula to lower the beignets into the hot oil. I want the side to a golden brown uses the spatula to put the beignets over. When you right take them out of the hot oil and you will have your beignet.
The very last step is to take some confectioners sugar and just sprinkle it all over the beignets. So, there you have it great Beignets for a special Mom. Happy Mother’s Day!
