Hi, I’m Caitlin with Cooking with Caitlin and we are at —market. A great tip if you want to change the flavor of your candied Clementine’s is add some vanilla or different flavor and liqueur to it. Let’s get cooking.
Today, I’ here to teach you a great summer time dessert, it’s called candy clementines. For this recipe you will need a few ingredients, you need clementines and if they’re out of season you can always use mandarin oranges or small navel oranges if you cannot find them. Some triple sec which is an orange flavored liqueur or any other alcoholic you like or prefer and then powdered sugar.
The first step of this whole process is cutting the oranges. You want to cut them in the dead center, you do not want to come this way. This way when you pop it open to eat it you get to have every bite of it. The second step after you cut the oranges is —whatever liqueur you’ve chosen. You want to make sure you’re capable of doing this overnight and so the oranges can really get the flavor.
The last and final step is to caramelize the clementines. You got a non stick pan and what we’re doing is we are grabbing the clementines getting excess liquid off and then dipping them face down on to the powdered sugar. Then we’re going to move the Clementine straight to the pan face down. The reason I chose powdered sugar versus any other type of sugar is because it’s so fine that it will cook quicker. So what’s going to happen with the high heat it’s going to burn and create a caramel sauce, so that when you eat them you pop them and it will be caramelized and delicious.
Once the sugar around the oranges starts to turn a light brown color, they’re done. The trick to these great desserts is how you eat them. You want to make sure you pop it out and get every last bit of caramel Clementine. Thank you for tuning in to Cooking with Caitlin.
