All right I think what we’re going to next is we’re going to make one of these butterflies that you can actually clip on to something. What you need it just plain old spring at close pin and you might want to decide ahead of time like on the color scheme. This one I did in pinks and purples so maybe will do a yellow one. So you just going to take your paint maker and you know color the close pin okay which is ain’t too difficult to do and believe or not this paint dries pretty quickly. You just have to watch out for a little bit of smearing but after we just put base code on it, I think what we’ll do is will—work on the beading of the wings and let this dry before we actually color on top of it and put some patterns on his body. If you’ve got little children making this, I think that they can do this and you know if they don’t exactly get the whole thing colored completely that’s okay. You know whatever part they color on it is great.
Now we got that finished temporarily and I’m going to put this here and just let it dry. I think I’m going to use some gold pipe cleaners for the wings. So what you’re going to do is pick out some beads and maybe come up with some kind of a pattern for your beads. It’s a good idea to have a pattern in mind because things always look a little bit more organize if you have some kind of a pattern going and I’m just going to fill this whole pipe cleaner with those beads. So I think I’d probably have enough beads on here because I want some of the sparkly pipe cleaners to show through. What I’m going to do is kind to make like a figure eight out of this pipe cleaners and I’m going to wrap one around the center to kind to hold them together. So this is going to be my one side. I’m going to keep this over on the side. I’m going to make my wings first and we’ll decorate the body because I don’t want to be decorating the body after I’ve already got the wings on. Let’s try some orange. Let’s bring out orange in here and I think I’m just going to do little tiny dots, like little dots of three in a space.
I mean you can decorate it. You could put stripes on it. You could put hearts, so you could put flowers. You know again patterning is totally up to you. Let’s get a little complimentary color in here so we’ll put a little purple. Put some bigger dots here. You know those complimentary colors always look nice. So we’ve got kind of like a polka dot pattern here. And I guess maybe on the other side just for fun. I’m going to do a stripe pattern. I’m going to do some purple stripes and then put some thin orange ones in between will do two. So we got something totally different going on this side. So the one side has dots and the other has stripes.
Now we’re going to go ahead and put the beads on this butterfly. Same colors so that his wings are symmetrical or her wings. Just a fun thing for little ones to do, you know string beads onto pipe cleaners. It’s also a good fine motor exercise. So I think we probably have enough here. We can kind of spread them out and when I do that figure eight again. You have to have a little pipe cleaner to little extra to wrap around here because these are going to go into the edge of the spring. Before I go any further, let’s get my little antennas let’s see and I’m just going to use one and fold it in half here and then I think because I put a little purple on that one side, I’m going to put a little purple bead on the end of the antenna just to repeat that purple because repetition of colors always a good thing to do and I’m going to use my hot glue gun. Put some glue in the little—there’s a little area that goes down and I want to put it that because then the close pin won’t get stuck together when it closes down on itself. If you put it up higher it would probably—you know the hot glue it’s going to stick and then you won’t be able to open your close pin.
Now comes the fun part. You’re going to find the metal part here and I am going to stick the pipe cleaner into this open spot here. See there’s like a circular place here that you can actually stick the pipe cleaner into and if you squirt some glue down on this side they’re going to touch each other and there you have it. There’s your butterfly.
Now the fun thing is that you can do variations on this after you’ve made the model magic body. You could just use pipe cleaners and beads and make your wings out of pipe cleaners. You could actually draw the wings on a piece of paper like this and then you would take your pipe cleaner and actually lay on top of there and if you do that twice then you’ll have your wings about the same size. You could put model magic wings on the close pins. You could stick just regular plain pipe cleaners into the body and I’m sure that you and your parent, kids—I’m sure you’ll come up with ideas that I’ve never thought of.
So we’ve got some butterflies that you’ll have fun making and we’ll be back for another project.
Choose a color scheme and apply base code of color to the close pin, string beads onto a pipe cleaner leaving an inch free on one end. Twist into a figure eight and repeat for a second wing. Now decorate the close pin. Use another pipe cleaner to create antenna. Glue center of folded pipe cleaner and glued a close pin. Be careful not to glue the close pin shot then attach wings to the side of the close pin.
