Hi! I am Karen, of www.karenscookies.net and this Part 5 of the One Cookie - Five Ways video series. What I am going to show you here, is how to sugar specific parts of your design. And this works with either the butter cream or the corn syrup icing, it doesn't matter. If you want -- I have taken it this far, because we need the parts that aren't going to be sugared to be very dry before we do the sugaring. So if you need help, with the outlining and filling in. Be sure to check out Parts 1, 2 or 3 of our video series, and that will help you with that.
Now, what I am going to do here, is I am going to fill in. This is I choose the corn syrup icing for this part. But like I said, the butter cream works just as well. I am going to fill in like I showed you before in Part 3 of the series, with the filling in here. Now you don't have to get quite as precise with the filling in because the weight of the sugar will help that to spread out really nice and it will get to the edges. But do help it along a little bit. So, it is almost all the way spread out to the edges.
Now we are going to do one color at a time. You want to make sure to just use one color at a time. Now these sugars are available on my website. And they are fun and bright wonderful colors. So just get that covered very well. And I am working on a piece of wax paper here, so that all the extra excess can go on to the wax paper and then back into the jar. And I am taking just a little artist brush and brushing off all the excess. You don't have to do a super good job right here, right now. You just want to get most of it off, and then when this dries completely you can go back and brush it again. But you can get a good portion of it off, right at this place.
Now, I am going to make a little funnel and funnel that back into the sugar jar. Just flick off the excess here. Now we are going to do the blue part, same thing we just fill it in, it doesn't have to be perfect. Just get some color in there, spread it out a little bit, just some quick back and forth, don't worry about getting it just right. And now, we are going to very carefully add the blue sugar. And you don't want it to get mixed with the red sugar that you just did.
So I am just going to kind of carefully sprinkle that on there. I am going to really target it right at your blue, so that it doesn't get mixed in, and then tap it this way up so that it doesn't have to fall over the red when it's coming off. So, just tap it like that and take your brush to it again. And again it doesn't have to be perfect right now, you can go back after it dries and brush it some more. But, there it is, it just adds some really fun element to your cookie that makes people wonder how you did it, and will really impress your friends and family.
