Anthony: Welcome to the art of the drink video Podcast. My name is Anthony Caporale [band sound] and with us for the last week this month,
Melissa: I know.
Anthony: Is Melissa, our July drink art girl.
Melissa: Hello.
Anthony: Do you have fun this month?
Melissa: I did. I am so sad that I am leaving but it is okay.
Anthony: We will get you back.
Melissa: I hope so. It is being exciting.
Anthony: [Laughing] All right well, most people are actually going to be watching this tour in the first week of August.
Melissa: Okay.
Anthony: Not a lot of going on August but I did find out that it is, believe it or not, national admit that you are happy month. [Bouncing Sound]
Melissa: [Laughing]
Anthony: I do not know why.
Melissa: Never heard of that.
Anthony: No. So, we are going to do with me, it is just a nationally happy drink, something I think is one of Americas favorite drinks, the cosmopolitan.
Melissa: Works for me.
Anthony: Everybody loves the Cosmo. Cosmopolitan is a type of modern martini and it is basically vodka with some lime juice and some cranberry juice in it. And, we are going to kind of play with that a little bit because that is what we do here at the art of the drink.
Melissa: Of course.
Anthony: So, Martinis we always mix in our mixing tin. We are going to start first of all with big scoop ice and mixing tin. And then, I am going to use instead of regular vodka, I am going to use lime vodka.
Melissa: Oh.
Anthony: Okay? So, I am going to use two ounces of lime vodka. And then, I am going to use a half ounce of triple sec which is citrus liquor.
Melissa: Okay,
Anthony: And a lot of people will use sweetened lime juice? I actually like fresh lime juice. So, I am going to use a squeeze of fresh lime in there, and I am just going to drop the lime in, all right. And then, a half ounce of cranberry juice which is just a splash.
Melissa: Okay.
Anthony: Now a key to a good Cosmo to me anyway is not putting in too much triple sec, not putting in too much cranberry juice. Just supposed to flavor the vodka, okay? Not supposed to be a caped cod, it is not supposed to be vodka and cranberry.
Melissa: Yes, that is –
Anthony: So, shake it up real good and the key to making a good martini, shake it until the tin frosts.
Melissa: Okay.
Anthony: All right. So, it may make take a little while but that is a part of making a martini, make sure the ingredients are mixed.
Melissa: Okay.
Anthony: Make sure the drink is aerated and make sure that it is got the right temperature.
Melissa: Got you.
Anthony: So what I am waiting for is for frost to form on the bottom of the tin,
Melissa: Okay.
Anthony: And you can actually see that there will be frost on the bottom of the tin, all right? Then, you just pop that off and I am going to strain this into my martini glass, beautiful.
Melissa: Perfect.
Anthony: Right. Now, make this just a little bit special, I am going to flame some orange rind in there.
Melissa: Oh.
Anthony: And so what you do is you want to get a lighter. I like the Zippo because the flame stays lit. You hold the flame on the rim of the glass and then you take your orange skin, your orange rind and you squeeze it, through the flame, all right? Let us see if we could, squeeze it right to the flame. Right, exactly. And what that does is it squirts the oils from the orange rind through the flame and it caramelizes though and it sits on top of the Cosmo and it gives a kind of a burnt orange flavor. Really cool, and as for the actual garnish now, we are going to use a twist of lemon.
Now a lot of people when you order drinks, you are going to say twist and mean this is this wedge,
Melissa: Okay.
Anthony: Okay, this not the twist. The twist is actually something that you need with called a twister to make and you are actually just getting the outer skin of the citrus fruit and again I am going do this over the drink so that all of the oils end up going in the drink. I am going to go once around,
Melissa: Okay.
Anthony: All right, and that is my twist and then I am going to take this
