Décor it yourself
Hey there DIY’ers and welcome to our kitchen. They say no matter how big or beautifully decorated your home is people often end up here. So let us get guests ready by making the perfect kitchen accessory.
An apron, over on the forums, STQ and Lea wrote and asking about what to do with their left over jeans? So this week, we are going to make a multi tasking apron from our old denim. Get out your old jeans that do not fit, lay them flat on the floor and cut a straight line from the crotch to the side of the leg. Then open the leg up by cutting along the side scene. Now you have your piece to work with. Hold it up and measure, fold down the flat or I would like to cut and cut a nice clean line. In a half inch scene, around three sides of your fabric. Take a fan bright color of thread and sew 1 or two tops of the jeans around your fabric. For the top scene, allow for a 1 to 2inch gap in between for our apron ties. Now we add pockets. Simply cut off the sizes you want and put the good sides together. I am going to use left over fabric from the reupholstery episode. Pin a half inch down around the perimeter and sew three sides together. Turn your pocket right side out and fold the open scene down to create a clean edge. Do this to as many pockets you would like for your apron. Pin the pockets in place and sew along the sides and bottom. Now let us add an applique I am going to make bacon and eggs out of left over foam and fabric. First cut out your design. Now place the appliqué in to you apron and pin it down. Add your appliqué by sewing it half stitch along the edges of each piece of the fabric. Take a piece of twine long enough to tie around your waist and pin it to the top with a pin. Once a waist pin is pulled all the way through, tie larger knots on each side of the twine. To secure your waist tie stitch the holes close leaving a little bit of space. I am done.
When we return we will have more aprons options and we will show you how to have your table top guest ready.
