Female1: Why have not you upgraded to this idea?
Male1: Just a bad thing I have heard about it.
Man 2: Today, I am going to show you on this Mojave.
Male1: Well, that would pretty simple. I am actually blown away. I am thinking I would like to have this.
Female1: Actually this is the Vista.
Male1: Really.
Meg: Hey everyone, this week on the Décor it Yourself, we are exploring the magical world of Terrariums. This week we head back to Annie Marix to learn how to make our terrariums.
Annie: There are several different types of terrariums that I know I plant and some are easier than others who obviously. This one right here is called product construction and this one is a dome kind of construction, it is in a loose pattern and you can just put the dome over the top of it, so that it can get fresher at any instance. And this ones are both, obviously the easiest kind of terrariums which are this plants with glass container over the top of them. They all look equally as nice, inviting and to have a plant enclosed in glass. Keeps the plant really happy, really easy, low maintenance in your out terrarium. So for this plant, as much as the second one is a cactus with no spines. So you take a handful of just loose gravel and you can feel the bottom of the container. This is activated carbon which is ginseng import charcoal and you can just put this little bit over top your pebbles. So you take the specimen you want to plant over it. You just kind of loosen, the dirt, because it is going to be packed in there. You do not want to be able to see the shape of the pot that you just pull out of. So you can take all of the soil that came in your pot and then put it in your container. I am going to need a little bit more so I will just use the regular, from the hardware store, the potting mix, pack it in but not too tightly. One nice thing to do to terrarium is to kind of make a friend in a box. You can angle your dirt all of it more so that way, it looks more like a natural terrarium making a little indent in your soil. You can kind of gingerly tuck your plant in, and you make a tool to get down in there if your container is not quite wide enough for you to get your hands on. Do something a little bit more special and make your terrarium look a little bit more alive. You can put this stuff in, which is cheap moss, which is a dry decorative moss, which is pretty beautiful. And just tear off a little section into smaller bits then you can tuck it, down onto the top of your soil. So, just now, you are going to water him once, and you can closely monitor on its water level. They way you can tell if you ever watered them, is if you can see the condensation dripping off from the top of your container down and back onto the plants. And you can see that you watered it too much and if you have, all you have to do is just open up the lid for a day, and then let it air out a little bit and then close it again. These guy you probably only needed to be watered every one a half or two months.
Meg: For more info on terrariums, go check out inhabitat article on the subject. Think outside the glass box with your terrariums by adding fan figurines or wood lane creatures. Do not go anywhere because, we will be right back.
Male2: Here on Thread Banger, we are giving away a brand new genome sewing machines so that you can make your damn clothing.
Meg: That is right, and all you got to do is upload a video telling us how much you want one and you are on your way to a greener tomorrow.
Male2: So after the show, check out ThreadBanger.com for your chance to win.
Meg: See you there.
Female2: Hey Meg. So I saw your video about breading and I just start to give it a try. So I made this, from the sleeve of the shirt, I just cut it into strips, pulled it tight, tightened up to sew anything and then breaded. Actually I saw that ends, so it would not have fridge going on. I also made the headband, if you can tell, I matched and, so yes, thanks for the good idea. I cannot wait to see more videos.
Meg: Well, producing inhabitat, I came across the coverage of the international contemporary furniture fair. They feature some very cool up cycled pieces like this lamps. They remind of a piece I posted in Nest a while back about a magnetic pendant lamp. Do you think we can make one of those? In accordance to our theme, check out Brooklyn Indie Market, October Steampank event. Sign up for a fun time with this very crafty lady’s that I highly suggest you check out. This week’s quick tip, donate any of these 10 household items to your local animal shelter, clean up your clatter, and help those who save our four-legged friends. Check out the four article and apartment therapy.
Do you have any cool DIY terrarium products you have been working on? Send us your footage or photographs. Next week’s episode, Décor it Yourself, will be the last one for a while. Hey I need a break so I did not get hitch, and get my honeymoon. Until next week, remember your nest needs you.
