Pam: Hi! Welcome to Crafter Quickie’s where we show you fast easy and great looking project
you can make in just a matter of minutes. My name is Pam and to celebrate the season
we’re going to be making fabric ornaments. Although I making this for the holidays
they’re great for anytime of the year, the materials you need are small foam balls, you can
find this at craft stores, floral supply stores and online. They come several sizes; make
sure that you get small foam and not for a floral foam. Fabric, this is a great project for
left goer’s scraps or coat in squares. Some household items that you will need are hobby
knife, something like the flat smooth edge like the butter knife, pens, tape measure,
scissors and paper. Decorative wreath crack, paints and pens, now let’s clear the table and
get started.
The first thing you want to do is locate the line of the ball thus called the mold line that
pieces come together. Then take your pen and draw around that line, now that I have my
line drawing I’m going to figure out where my top and bottoms are going to be. And
that’s where easy to do, you just place your finger at the top and bottom so it makes to
see. Mark it here and then mark it again at the bottom look those here to even, pretty
close. Now, I’m going to draw my lines on, I’m going to take my tape measure and place
it on my X and bring it down to the other end and make sure it’s even and just draw a
line. Here’s one of mine, now we went to the other side and do the exact same thing. If
it’s laps around you can pull a little pan in your tape measure. Continue making lines and
dissecting your ball depending on how many sections you want. There I have all my lines
drawn on and it looks a little bit like a beach ball. Now let me grab my hobby knife and
get started on cutting it.
Knives are sharp and they can cut you so use caution when using these little babies.
Starting the top and take your knife and cut along the lines like so. I cut on my lines out
and now as time start with the pattern, to reset my knives this side and grab my tape
measure again and I’m going to measure from the top one section down to the bottom and
add about a half of inch to that. This is six inches so it’s going to be six and half inches.
Then I’m going to take the widest part and measure from that and add another half an
inch. This is two inches so it’s going to be a two and half. Now, I’m going to have my
measurement, let’s start the ball side and work on the pattern. And then grab the piece of
paper and draw a line it was six and just remember the half and draw from here to there.
Then I’m going to look at the middle and add in my two and half inches. And I’m going
to draw the pattern, there I’m done it looks a little bit like a cigar. Now, let’s cut it out.
There is my finish pattern, now I’ m going to clear the table so I can cut up my fabric.
I’ve my fabric out flat and take my pattern and put it to fabric so it doesn’t sleep around.
Add padding’s pin and now it’s time to cut it out. There I cut out my fabric and I have an
oval cigar shape fabric. Continue cutting out fabric depending on how many section do
you have. If your adventurous you can switch out the fabric, now let’s grab the ball and
started touching our fabric pieces to it. So, take a pin place it at the top, grab my smooth
edge and start putting the fabric into this cuts that I made. Going side by side so the fabric
stays nice and smooth, I’m going to continue doing this all the way around. Now, be
careful when you push in one side that you’re not pulling out the fabric from the other
side. My ornaments all done, now I just need to attached it to the tree and to do that I’m
going to need ribbon and pins. I have my wreath crack, ribbon and beams up to decorate
my ball. Rotate my re-tract and cut a little piece off to make the top of the ornaments. It’s
going to make a little hook like so. I have these rolling nice decorative pins so I want to
use one of those and attach the pin to the middle of the ball. I did a nice pick to the
bottom to match the top making a little bit more decorative, and there I have my
ornament. Yeah! So festive, this is an easy project that it will pull your family and friends
and I think you will spend hours and fortune at least beautiful ornaments. And it’s a great
way to use a extra pieces of fabric you have lying around the house. This is Pam with
Crafter Quickies, until next time.
