Jill Davie: One of the most important things about entertaining is that you make sure, that you end the night on a great note. And I think one of the best ways to do that is by sending your guest home with something unique and thoughtful from the heart, like and edible party favor. One of my favorite things is homemade cookies. I'll go to an art supplies shop and just pick up some of these colorful to go boxes, a little tissue paper, just pop the cookies right inside.
Sometimes I will even attach a recipe card. So if they are at home enjoying them, they want to try making them themselves, they have the recipe right there. Homemade trail mix makes a great edible party favors. Just mix it up put it in a mason jar, beautiful.
Now this is one of my favorite edible party favors, I take one of my wonderful olive oils and I'll infuse it with a hardy herb from my garden and usually rosemary, marjoram or oregano. So what I will do, is I will put the hardy herb inside, just pour my olive oil. And generally, I'll have these ready a couple of weeks ahead a time so the flavors have already infused. Go fill it to the top. Alright, you just cork them up and they are ready to go.
As a chef I am always on the lookout for new cool ingredients like this Smoke Salt that I came across, and also this beautiful Himalayan Pink Salt, and this wonderful British sea salt. One of the best things I found is to share them with my friends, and these are what you call bouquet garni bags. Now they are really inexpensive, and they sell them at pretty much any culinary store.
So what I will do is I will put a little bit of these special salts. These are just finishing salt so really a little bit goes a long way. And what I mean by finishing salt is that you just simply finish a dish with it, it's not something that you actually cook with. You just put a little sprinkling on a salad, or a piece of meat right before you eat it. So then I'll just tie these up like so. And voila, a little salt on the go. Another thing I'll have to do is find unique peppers.
Now peppers are great, salts are great, because they are something that everybody uses. Here I have some beautiful pink peppercorns, some white peppercorns, mixed them in a jar. And this jar I picked up at an art shop, I think it was like a couple of bucks, really inexpensive. Just a unique and fun way to display the peppercorns, and a great way for your friends to try something different and unique as well as yourself.
This one here is what I call my special seasoning salt. Now this is just simply is some chilly powder, some paprika, add there in some celery salt, kosher salt. But you know what, you can come up with your unique blend. This is such a great little handy jar, shake it on to maybe some chicken, your meat, some vegetables. Come up with your own signature salt and share it with your friends.
Now here is the take home guest that keeps giving, a pot of fresh herbs. I cannot cook without herbs in my kitchen. And a lot of times what I will do is I'll attach a recipe card, for something that uses maybe rosemary or sage. All of these edibles gift ideas are wonderful way to say thank you for a memorable evening.
