How to Make Emerald Auto Start in Ubuntu
Carrie Webb: The next one is from Dan. Just have a look at this email here. It looks different. Dan wrote, “I would like to know where to put Emerald replace to make sure this auto happens at boot time. I don’t know which—
Robbie Ferguson: Sure, okay. What Dan is asking about Emerald is the application I've recommended in the past for replacing Gnome Window decorator so that’s these guys up here like you see the red toggle bar.
Carrie Webb: Oh, yeah. I know we were talking about that.
Robbie Ferguson: And being able to like scroll up like that. That’s kind of neat. That’s shading. That’s done by using your scroll wheel by the way so if you pointed at, if I used this scroll wheel up, scroll wheel down, scroll wheel up, scroll wheel down.
Carrie Webb: You did that with the Windows.
Robbie Ferguson: I don’t know. I don’t think so.
Carrie Webb: I don’t think I can either.
Robbie Ferguson: No, that’s a feature of Emerald but so to get that to automatically start what is he’s asking to do. So what we need to do is set that up as a session auto-start. Just go up to system, preferences, way down here sessions. Click on sessions and you’ll see startup program as the first, add and go Emerald. You can name it whatever you want because that’s just the name but the command has to be your Emerald—replace. So now if you hit add it’s going to add Emerald to your list and now every time you turn on your computer Emerald is going to automatically replace Gnome window decorator. I’m just going to leave that in there.
Carrie Webb: Okay.
Robbie Ferguson: I did it for the demonstration but I was to run it manually. Now I don’t have to. There you go, that’s all you need to do. Close that, reboot and it will start automatically.
