Speaker: This French Onion Soup is classic, easy to make and simply delicious.
First, slice four large yellow onions using a tight thin slice. Then, in a large Dutch oven, add enough Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil to coat the pan and then add the onions. Cook them over medium heat for 12 minutes until they are tender and golden. Stir off them. Add a half cup of brandy if you like and let the alcohol burn off. Now, add one teaspoon of sugar.
Next, add two quarts of beef broth, cover and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 12 minutes.
Next, ladle the soup into a bowl. Place a slice of baguette on top. Then cover that with shredded gruyere, and place slices of emmenthal over that. Place the bowls on a baking pan and broil until the cheese is melted.
Onion soup is simply the best comfort food ever.
