Okay, here we go, we’re making French Toast Christmas trees today. You can use any French toast batter for this recipe but we’re going holiday ourselves a little bit. We’ve got a few sausage links cooking on the griddle. We’ve got those started to heat about 325 about medium high on your stove top. And for the batter, we’re going to crack a couple of eggs, two eggs here, and we’re going to go for the milk, that’s a quarter cup of milk and holiday this thing up with a quarter cup of eggnog, beautiful. Now, the maple syrup is perfect for this recipe so a tablespoon and we’re going to use vanilla, a teaspoon of vanilla, always good for a French toast recipe. And Cinnamon is going to add a little bit more Christmas magic, we’ve got a half teaspoon of cinnamon and salt—brings things together just a pinch, a nice, nice pinch.
Now, we’re going to mix all these ingredients together and just for one second we’re going to—of the video. And we’re going to grab three slices of bread and we’re going to cut them back and this could be white bread, wheat bread, just standard bread. Put them in a pan, put this in the mixing bowl too but the point is to give this a bath, the holiday bath in this beautiful egg custard mixture. So, we pour that on there and then we’re also going to flip our bread pieces around just a bit so they absorb all that good stuff.
Now, they’re heated to same setting. We’re going to make room for the French toast. But what we’re going to do is put down a pat of butter about a tablespoon of butter for each bunch of bread that you’re working with. And we’re going to fill as many of these bread slices onto the griddle as we can. Now, this recipe makes two French toast Christmas trees. It’s very easily doubled just times everything by two, two times two is four. And just as we would with any French toast recipes, we’re going to cook both sides with beautiful golden brown and then it turn out that way, looks pretty good, we can work with this.
So, overlap those French toast pieces to make the body of the tree and we’re going to need a tree trunk and that’s where the sausage comes in. So, top that sausage under that last piece of French toast. This is green sugar that you get on baking section of your grocery store. And just put that over each piece. We’re going to follow that up with a little bit of a snow storm, this is powdered sugar that we just sprinkle over each piece. Now, I use rosemary to make grass on the base of the tree but you can use any green herb, we can whip cream for snow. Finally, let that sunshine in with a half of an orange slice and there you’ve got it, that’s a French toast Christmas tree.
