Let’s make a little French toast for breakfast this morning. Looks good. We’re going to use one cup of milk, you can use a cup of cream, light cream or half and half, whatever you like or even skim milk. Two cinnamon sticks, they’re going to be soaked in the milk overnight. This avoid having those dark little spots of cinnamon when you use ground cinnamon, it’s very difficult to dissolve that out plus it makes the French toast look even darker. So we’ll put the flavor in there, soak the cinnamon sticks overnight and put one teaspoon of brown sugar with it. Let that dissolve for a little different taste. Three eggs and two pieces of brioche bread and pure vanilla extract. We’re going to use one quarter teaspoon of pure vanilla extract. I’m using brioche bread for the French toast just to see how it comes out today but I must say that the best bread to use to give the best French toast of course is holla bread.
I added another quarter of a teaspoon of French vanilla extract. Use any extract you like, whatever flavor you’re looking for, just place the bread into the egg and let it soak. That should be good enough. I remove the toast, then just put it on a plate, continue soaking the rest of it, put some vegetable oil in a skillet, a nice thick bottomed skillet, cooks evenly, moderate flame. This mix should make about 8 slices of French toast. If you were using a thicker piece of bread like the holla, maybe six. Just place the toast into the skillet and we let this brown gently on both side. You see you just lightly brown the bread. Turn it over. I’ve never used brioche bread but I expect a little different flavor today from the French toast. Not everybody uses cinnamon but it gives a nice flavor and as you noticed it’s a lovely golden brown color, as I said if we used the powdered cinnamon, you get a very dark and spotty looking pieces of French toast and that’s why I soaked the cinnamon stick overnight in the milk.
When we’re done, you can place the pieces of French toast on a little paper towel to absorb a little more of the fat. You could serve the French toast with powdered sugar, syrup. You could place nuts on there, apple chips, whatever you like anyway, that’s it, plain old brioche French toast and I’m going to have to eat this right now while it’s still hot, bye bye.
