Female Speaker: The colors that you use at home, you get those little food colorings?
Female Speaker: Right, from the store.
Female Speaker: Exactly. Those are very, very water-based, and you won't get the deep colors that you want. I should tell you my trick, to knowing the right consistency to ice. When you pick it up and let it flow, in ten seconds, it should all come together. If it takes more than ten seconds to come together, then it's too thick, and you're going to have lines. So you spray a little bit of water.
As long as it doesn't go out of the lines, it's okay. You always have to wait for the first coat to dry, or the outline to dry before you fill it in. That doesn't take long, especially, the thicker the icing is, the less time it takes to dry. So it takes about five minutes, and the icing will dry, at least dry enough that you could fill it in.
