Paula Ross: Hi! I am Paula from Andys Parties, and today I am showing you how to plan and
execute a terrific Halloween party for kids at your home. So, right now we are
going to talk about how to decorate your party space. There are a number of ways
to decorate your party space, most often folks will go to the local party store or
the craft store, get a lot of Halloween decorations, put them up on the walls, hang
streamers from the ceilings, and that’s all great, but your kids want to get involved
with those decorations too. So, do some of those, and then also get your kids
involved, and they will be really excited about their party space. I am going to
show you how to do a couple of small decorations that the kids can help you with,
based on different ages. So, the first thing we are going to do is make some
pumpkin garland. This is a very easy craft to do as long as your kids are old
enough to handle scissors, they can help you. You will have to help them with the
folding of the paper. So, here’s how you do it. We need some tissue paper,
preferably orange, but you can do green pumpkins if you want. You need a pencil
and some scissors.
You can use safety scissors for the kids; you will just have to help them poke out
the eyes. So, we take the tissue paper, and we are going to fold it like an
accordion. Try to make each accordion panel about the same width so that your
creases are all lining up. Then on the front of the top accordion piece you are
going to draw pumpkin, but don’t try the side edges. We are going to leave the
sides of the pumpkin on the edge of the paper. You can draw some eyes and a
nose and a Jack O Lantern mouth in there too if you want, like I just did there. I
have one here that’s already drawn out, and you can see that my pencil doesn’t
reach the edge of the paper. I left the edges. We will take our scissors, and we are
going to cut around the bottom, cut around the top. Make sure you leave a pretty
big stem, otherwise it might get cut off in the process, the tissue paper can be kind
of fragile.
Then you usually have to bend the tissue paper just a little bit to get the eyes
pumped up. So, one triangle eye, two triangle eyes, and now we will cut our Jack
O Lantern mouth. I will just do a little smiley face, and result, Jack O Lantern
garland. So, you do as many of these and you can make them as long as you want
to hang all over your party space. The kids will really like it because they can tell
their friends oh, I made that, and they will really like to have their party in a space
that they have decorated. Another kid friendly craft, and we will get to some of
this when we do our party crafts as well is to just decorate pumpkins. For little
kids you could take paper-mache pumpkins like this, have them decorate them
with markers and stickers and crayons, or for older kids you could take real
pumpkins or gourds and have them paint them. We will discuss that a little bit
later, what kind of paint to use. So, those are some tips on decorating your party
space.
