Hi, it’s Chef Jason Hill and these are hard boiled eggs. I was recently visiting my in-laws for a few days and my mother-in-law likes to make hard boiled eggs for my kids to snack on but what you got to mixed up with the other eggs and you didn’t know which ones were the hard boil and which ones weren’t. So I had a couple of things to show her, not most people knew but apparently not, so here is a quick little tip.
Sometimes you can actually smell the hard cooked egg inside the shell. Yeah, this one is definitely hard boiled. But my favorite way is the spinning method and once I showed my mother on that that she insists that I do a video. If you take a raw egg and try to spin it, it will spin very well. But a hard cooked egg will spin and eventually stand up. There is your hard cooked egg, to cook eggs in boiling water, I recommend adding the eggs to the pot first because if we try now over to the hot boiling water people tend to drop them in and they hit the bottom of the pan and you lose your egg product.
So I'm going to add this to the pot first and then I put on the stove and I boil them for 15 minutes at a rapid boil. Okay, after 15 minutes, under a rapid boil I'm going to cut the heat and we’re just going to run these eggs in some cool water in the sink. And I let this one for a few minutes to cool them down. Now, I'm going to show you a peeling trick that I've seen and I don’t know who if it works for sure so I'm going to try it for my self. What you want you want to do is you want to crack the ends and give a little peel, at the ends of the egg. Now after the ends have been peeled, graft the egg put up a knot and you blow, I did it.
