Rebecca Brayton: Cupcakes are perfect, they are not messy if it's right in your hand and they are delicious. Hi! I am Rebecca Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com and today, I am speaking with Michelle Wall of Clever Cupcakes, about this recent trend in desserts. So what makes you gravitate towards making cupcakes?
Michelle Wall: I really find that cupcakes brings joy to people. It's just fine, you walk in the room with a plate of cupcakes and everyone starts crawling around you and wants one, and it just makes everyone happy.
Rebecca Brayton: So tell us about the Clever Cupcakes. Your company has got three different categories of cupcakes, so tell us a bit about each of them.
Michelle Wall: I started Clever Cupcakes about a year ago. The company was started with our host of cupcakes, which are cupcakes that are made with a agave nectar instead of sugar, and are made with whole wheat flour. We then branched out and started making classic cupcakes because there are some people who just wanted that sugar fix. And that evolved into also making our creative cupcakes which are cupcakes that can be specially designed for any event.
Rebecca Brayton: What made you think that the healthy alternative of the wholesome cupcakes were a niche in the market that needed to be filled?
Michelle Wall: Well, it really started with something that I found that was missing in the market. I had cut sugar and white flour out of my diet and I found that when you go to parties, there was never anything for you to eat, and then I realized, even though it was a choice on my part, there were people who had no choice, for example, diabetics or people that had other type of dietary restrictions. And also for children, I mean we are talking about the obesity epidemic, we can't deprive people of sweets completely, but you can make them at least more healthy.
