Hello, and welcome to the home of No Better Dog Food. My name is Gail. And I'm going to show you today how to make a nutritious homemade cooked dog food. What we’re going to do is use our product called “U-stew”, it’s got all of the ingredients in it that you need in order to make a balanced complete homemade food for your dog.
What I'm using today is I'm starting with two pounds of a lean ground beef. You don’t want to necessarily go too high in the fat content of the meat probably 20 to 25% is maximum for the fat content so we’re using a lean ground beef. You can also use turkey or chicken or buffalo or game or any meat of your choice, just don’t go too high in the fat content. Another thing to keep in mind is just keep your measurements fairly accurate. What we do is we balance this meal and the calcium phosphorus ratio is relatively important so you want to keep your measurements relatively accurate.
So, I've got the two pounds of the meat and to that I've added one and a half cups of water. You want to make it good, fresh drinking water. And what I’ve done is I've already got it cooked here. I took the meat and water and cooked it in a pot for I don’t just as long as it takes just to cook it until it’s brown. You don’t want to cook it for too long. And now what we do is we balance it and we take a half cup measure of U-stew powder and we add it to the mix and stir it together. We started with the two pounds of meat and water and by the time we add the powder and mix it all up we've got a total of about three pounds of finished food. And three pounds is quite a lot, you can make this in really large quantities if you want, you can make 50 or a 100 pounds at a time if you want and throw it in the freezer but what we’re doing today is just three pounds.
Now, we’re going to go for the taste test, come on, come on Sweet Pewee. We’re going to feed our Pewee here, good girl. For a dog this size, she will eat her daily ration is about a quarter of a pound of finish mixed which equals about a half a cup so that’s what I measured out there and she loves her food. There is no problem with dogs enjoying this meal. They absolutely love it. So, as I was saying you can make it up in really large portions and face it. What we do is we use zip lock containers or freezer packages of some kind, you can use zip lock bags. It works really well. If you put the food into a zip lock bag and flatten it out, it makes very easy to—
Vegetables are optional in this diet. We've added all of the nutrients that a dog needs without actually having to put in vegetables but if it were your choice to add a few vegetables you can, don’t go any more than about 25% or so by weight in vegetable matter for these meals. And the vegetables that you're going to want to use are things like the—family, broccoli and cabbage and cauliflower that kind of thing. You can use peas. You can use cooked beans. You want to stay away maybe from spinach because it does create oxalate stones in the wrong environment. You’ll want to stay away from onions and garlic and tomatoes and potatoes. You don’t want the—family but most vegetables are fine. If you want to go into the yellow vegetables like pumpkin and squash, they're an excellent, they're very high in the carbohydrate which is a good source of energy for dogs. So, that was delicious. Thank you.
