Daddy Clay: Hey! There, welcome back to Quality Time, I am Daddy Clay. We have got Katelyn from girlstart here and she is going to help us make some dry ice-cream, and I have got my spoon. Hey! Katelyn welcome back to the studio.
Katelyn: Thanks, thanks.
Daddy Clay: Thanks for coming back, we wanted you to come back after doing a segment with segment with Daddy Brad? Most people won't.
Katelyn: Oh! No prob we had fun.
Daddy Clay: Really.
Katelyn: We apologize again.
Daddy Clay: Cool! Okay, what are we going to do today?
Katelyn: So, we are going to make some dry ice ice-cream, always good. Every kid loves ice cream.
Daddy Clay: Ben, Jerry eat your hearts out.
Katelyn: Right, and this is a little bit cheaper than Ben & Jerry's and you can make it, it's a great experiment that you can do with your kids. And so the very first thing is you need some whipping cream, some condensed milk and then some sort of flavoring, we have strawberry today, because that's what we found, so that works just fine. A measuring cup, a bowl, a spoon and we'll need dry ice. Now, let's get all the ingredients together first.
Daddy Clay: Yeah, the best part is this spoon.
Katelyn: This spoon is the best part, you are helping out really well.
Daddy Clay: I mean the things that you are doing is good too.
Katelyn: That's great.
Daddy Clay: But the spoon pretty much makes it.
Katelyn: Perfect! So, about two servings the amount of that I am going to tell you. So about 5 ounces of whipping cream; pour it in.
Daddy Clay: It's sort of like I am cooking, except I am not really.
Katelyn: Not really.
Daddy Clay: What next?
Katelyn: So now we have our condensed milk, so you want about 3 ounces of condensed milk. I mean let's talk about how yummy that looks. But don't worry it's going to turn into delicious ice cream here in a minute.
Daddy Clay: That's -- I have - like my coffee every morning.
Katelyn: That's really healthy for you.
Daddy Clay: It's so good.
Katelyn: Ice-creams should may be more of a treat with some condensed milk. So, let's scrape all of it, out of there.
Daddy Clay: This is excellent, because usually science experiments can't give you diabetes.
Katelyn: Well, I am not saying to do science experiments all the time.
Daddy Clay: Right. So, it's special. Do you do with the kids, because it's raining outside and they drive me crazy.
Katelyn: Okay, so then pour a teaspoon of flavoring, whatever you want, okay.
Daddy Clay: can you do mixings, do you like throw in some --
Katelyn: like vanilla strawberry.
Daddy Clay: No, it's just like some skittles or something like that.
Katelyn: After you have it whipped together, you can throw some mixings. Great! So next you have the dry ice.
Daddy Clay: Dry ice.
Katelyn: Okay well, dry ice comes in a really big packet, it's like this.
Daddy Clay: Alright.
Katelyn: However you can't -- you don't want to eat dry ice so, you need to smash it down into a powder.
Daddy Clay: I see.
Katelyn: The back of a hammer works really, really well.
Daddy Clay: So then you get some of the mashed up like this.
Katelyn: So I have some as I even smashed up.
Daddy Clay: Yeah, so it looks like -- sort of consistency of salt.
Katelyn: Right.
Daddy Clay: Very fine and granules.
Katelyn: Exactly. So this works best for two people.
Daddy Clay: Okay, I am stirring, I am stirring, I am stirring -- no, I am kidding. Oh wow! I can't see that I am doing.
Katelyn: Okay, keep stirring.
Daddy Clay: I am stirring in a blizzard.
Katelyn: A metal bowl actually works better than a plastic bowl.
Daddy Clay: I must tell that this experiment must make kid really exciting.
Kathme: They are really excited. Because now, they are making their own ice cream and the best part about it is you get to eat it afterwards.
Daddy Clay: That's it, it's like -- for me this constitutes like a huge workout. Like I am really earning this ice cream right now.
Katelyn: Okay, so --
Daddy Clay: I think I did a really good job stirring.
Katelyn: No, you did a fantastic job stirring.
Daddy Clay: I did exceptional.
Katelyn: Exceptional.
Daddy Clay: I would say.
Katelyn: If can see really closely.
Daddy Clay: Probably the best you have ever seen.
Katelyn: This was better than what I did earlier today, it is.
Daddy Clay: Well, keep saying.
Katelyn: Exactly. As you can see my dry ice was not powdered out as powder, really-really thin as possible. You can see it at the bottom. You don't want to eat those.
Daddy Clay: Yeah.
Katelyn: But, if you take the extra effort pounded out completely, you won't have this problem.
Daddy Clay: Tiny, tiny pieces of dry ice and you don't get the --
Katelyn: You wanted to be more of a powder than tiny pieces.
Daddy Clay: Okay.
Katelyn: Really tiny. Okay so now, we I think we both have to eat some.
Daddy Clay: Oh! Really.
Katelyn: You have to eat what you just made.
Daddy Clay: Heck yeah, I do!
Katelyn: Okay, so the rule is that, because since we have some chunks you can -- If you have a chunk don't eat it!
Daddy Clay: Okay, don't eat the chunks. Science never tasted so good. No, but seriously, this is delicious. Thanks a lot Katelyn for coming in.
Katelyn: No, problem.
Daddy Clay: Thanks also to girlstart. You got to go on to girlstar.org, is that your website? Go to girlstar.org and learn about this really cool organization. And as long as you are online, you know what you have to do. Go over to dadlabs.com and make a little profile for yourself, join in the community there and learn about cool things, like dry ice.
Katelyn: Ice cream.
Daddy Clay: And we'll share with you, not!
