Hi guys, this is PAV Production. And today www.fruitytuts.com, I’ll be showing you how to make a Kanye West type of drums. It’s what I was using this drum kit and using his kit from www.fruitytuts.com. If you already don’t know, just go on www.fruitytuts.com and let me just show you.
In the browser, like that. And then when the page loads up, simply click on the shop. And then scroll, and Kanye West kit right here. It’s nonetheless 99. That’s what amusing at the moment. It’s got a nice kick inside, pianos, shakers, snares – I love the stuff. But let’s just get into the beat making.
Basically, what I’m going to do, I’m just going to use his kit throughout the whole – I’m going to use his kit throughout the whole tutorial. So today, I will be giving you a tutorial on how to make a Kanye West type of drums. Now this is my first of tutorial making a Kanye West type of drums. So I hope you guys enjoy it. First things first, reset the timeframe to 8, so basically your step sequencer as you call it, has got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. It’s got eight steps, as well call them. And we’ll string to it, so let’s have a look at what I’m going to use.
[Demonstration]
That was like a good kick, so I just put it in. Turn up the volume a little bit. Just kick one, one, seven or one, seven, even.
[Demonstration]
That’s a 201, kick at one – and 11.
[Demonstration]
Just turn 11 down a little bit. Right now, let’s just kick down to this.
[Demonstration]
One, five, one – and this is just – stop building it basically. So let’s set the tempo to 90.
[Demonstration]
As you can see this sound is quite nice.
[Demonstration]
I am making the sample as I go along. So I’m quite impressed with this. It come out quite nice, I’ve just listened to few Kanye West songs before. I start making tutorials, I’ll get some inspiration.
[Demonstration]
Okay, let’s have a look over here. A lot of shake, let’s put that in.
[Demonstration]
And let’s pan that to the right.
[Demonstration]
We pan that to the left, sorry.
[Demonstration]
Let’s put that.
[Demonstration]
I’m using that right now. Let’s drag that in.
[Demonstration]
Let’s just try and get into the timeframe at the bottom and see what we have. So you can see it’s quite big so let’s just right-click on it and go into edit. Now this comes with the kit as well. Let’s just have a look.
[Demonstration]
That doesn’t loop very well but we can still fix this.
[Demonstration]
We’re just trying to find the loop point.
[Demonstration]
Alright, and let’s just start that into the drum. Let’s put it on to two bars, right-click, put it on the default, it’ll be a little bit – and this is just the out –
[Demonstration]
I’m not too sure if that will fit in but if we doesn’t, we can use another sample. This is great way of testing. So let’s jut see how it sounds.
[Demonstration]
Okay, it’s a little, little bit off. So let’s just go in here and fix up a little bit. Okay, let’s just take that off. I’m going to sample this into two things. So I’ll set the mark on this one and then I’ll go in here and I’ll set the marker on this one. I’ve just lost it. Control A to select both of them. Go into the sequencer, right-click Insert More. Now you want to insert Fruity Slicer. This will slice up the thing, go straight to Fruity Slicer, open in up, have it ready. Drag the things over by clicking on this little tab at the bottom, drag it over into the ref window, release it and you see that you’ll have your samples loaded in. And if we press the C key then – C#, so that’s what we’ve done. So let’s take that off from the bottom now.
Now that we’ve sampled it, we can turn this into a bit of song. So what – I like them in. Okay this is my type of tip for you guys. Don’t forget, I still using the Kenya West kit, completely using the Kenya West kit and nothing else. So let’s just bass this in. And now what we’ve done is we’ve actually look in at the samples. So what we have is – that’s the kick. So we want to synchronize the sample to go with the kick. so every time the kick goes bang, sample will change, double give a bit of flow to your beat and a bit sounds to your beat. So let’s just – you know this is all about testing, playing around.
[Demonstration]
Okay, they just test this out. Let’s just put up the volume a little bit. Also, humanize in – the volume is very good, make Kanye in a not the same level, making a little bit different than it was on the same piano roll. It sounds a little bit better.
[Demonstration]
So we can say that that sounds much better than the first I did. We can do different ones as well. We can also take that out, not completely. Control A, select it all, cut it down. We could like do something completely different.
[Demonstration]
I just did that as a joke but let’s see what happens. You can always test this out, it’s so easy. You won’t believe it. This is so easy, anyone could do this. Let’s just test this out to see how it sounds.
[Demonstration]
What we have is we’ve got two different sounds now.
[Demonstration]
Okay, so this is the quick tutorial making Kanye West type of drums and sample in. we can also put bass in there you know. This is the bass from his kit as well. If we just put it in. Let’s just test it.
[Demonstration]
Once we have that in there, we can see that the bass is in there. So let’s just have that and then a little one at the bottom, like that. So this is what we have done for the bass, with the melody.
[Demonstration]
Maybe we should have – this one maybe.
[Demonstration]
We also have a little click on that bass, let’s just try to fix that. Let’s just go choose – D click out. Let’s just try that in on to the original. Save that click a little bit. I believe that the click is due to the beginning so let me just edit that. Right-click Select All, choose D click N, choose D click Out. Now sometimes this doesn’t work, this is not 100% but it always worth a try. Let’s have a look on the bass now.
[Demonstration]
It’s not actually clicked and that’s the way the bass is made. That’s the actual function of the D of the bass. There is not clicking in there, it’s just the bass. So let’s just listen to that.
[Demonstration]
Now let’s just start with the kick.
[Demonstration]
I’m just messing about. This is a Kanye West type of that I make for you guys. It didn’t take too long. I hope this tutorial will help you guys. This kick is available for $9.99. I strongly recommend it. Once more, let me just play it, turn off the mic so you guys get a nice hearing of what has been produced. So let’s just turn that off.
[Demonstration]
You know that is not a bad track, this could be mixed down very nicely – the effect at the moment but on the snare I would put it to number 10 and then put reverb on it. It’s always nice to have a little bit of reverb on your – here.
[Demonstration]
Just like that, it will sound much better.
[Demonstration]
So it’s much better already. Okay guys, this is PAV Production, www.fruitytuts.com. This is me, making Kanye West type of drums for you guys. As we know, we’ve been through the sample, we’ve been through the bass, also HiHats, we’ve been through snares, also we’ve been through the kicks – shakers.
