How to make money on clothing consignment
Hi. My name is Julie Caitlin and I work for closet campus. I am a wardrobe manager and I am here to tell you how to make money selling on consignment.
First thing that you have to know about selling on consignment is that you have to go through all your items and look for what you want and what you do not want. You go through your entire wardrobe and you prune. The advantage in doing this that you are going to have a lot more space and you are going to left with things that you only truly love. So, without in mind you approach your wardrobe and you go to each item and you do a love pile, hate pile, never worn pile and then things that you do not like anything that has a resale value, high in designer or vintage or any thing that is in big demand. Chances are you can take it to a consignment.
So now that you have your things that you want to sell. Now you have to decide whether not you go to a consignment shop or sell it online. There are things called trading assistance and wardrobe managers. Selling on consignment to a consignment shop typically, they take about 50% to 60% of the resale price. When you to chose to give it to somebody to selling consignment online, they can be a little bit less picky, they typically only take about 30% or 35% of the selling price. So you are going to be able to make more.
So you decided to sell your clothing and you want to be able to know what the resale price would be. If you bought something recently, that is in the last five years, and it has a resale value typically you kind of expect to be able to sell it for about a third that you bought for. If it is a vintage, vintage you might be able to regroup the entire sale or sometimes they goes up in price.
So typically, what sales is designer labels, vintage clothing, accessories and shoes. Believe it or not, even if your shoes are in worn condition but in a descent condition people will buy them. They just do not want to pay for price anymore. So if you are Manolo Blahnic, have been worn and use but they are a little bit dirty you can still sell them.
Typically, what sales is shoes, handbags and clothing. Now you may not think anyone would buy your used shoes but I guess what they do. You know if they are in descent condition and torn but there might be some wear in the bottom or in the insert, you can definitely sell them on consignment. Your handbags that you do not love anymore and you wore once easily sold. People love shopping for accessories. Do not hesitate to give them to your consignment store.
So you know what you want to sell, now you physically do not have to go to a consignment store. Closet campus will come to you and pick up your items for you.
