I love Mulled Wine in a cold winter day. For the hottest, people usually serve it before dinner, but because it’s sweet, I think I'm going to serve it after dinner.
So the first thing I need, four cups of apple cider, one bottle of red wine, I use Cabernet Sauvignon, something like full-bodied, it’s a whole bottle. This will serve to 6 to 8 people. It’s perfect for my party and I’m going to put in a quarter cup of honey just a little bit. Once you’ve done this add some spices and you can really make this as spicy as you want it to be. You put in four cloves, three star anise, this is really sort of a liqueur’s flavor, and two sticks of cinnamon, so holidayish. Let’s go and heat this up.
The next thing I need is the juice of one fresh orange. So right in, and then when it simmer for about 10 minutes, that best part is going to make the house smell fabulous.
We will take the hot wine and put it in glasses, and just do it one peel of orange zest in each glass to just give it that orange flavor. It’s just having now perfect because we’re going to take all the star anise and everything out, cinnamon.
Let’s go and fill up the glasses. Now that was like a party.
