We get out with 23 x 23 and I will go down to pieces together. It takes a long time like I said, you could watch television or something while you are doing it. You can use contact cement too, but hot glue gun it works a lot better. Put them together, edge to edge until it ends up this way. It does not have to be perfect. Now, usually you put that in the front for the stomach. And I will make a hole in the back where you put your hand in it. All about I would say, a couple of inches down from the top. Now, if it is too long or when you set the puppet down, if it is too long you cut it off so that it looks naturally, you cut it off whatever you need that is why I like to make them that long, you make a big character.
It maybe longer and this is really an expensive foam and cheap foam is a lot better than expensive foam. There is the hole in the hand. This is the kind of foam that you will get. This is like a crib mattress. This are the two inch foam that makes the body strong. And here again, then I scalp the top so we will get into the neck. Now, for professional type puppet, you if you wanted to make them yourself, then you really need to line the whole thing and this is the way it looks like glowing with the arms on it.
With just a hot glue gun and you just start it off. Well, to start out with, I took a pair of scissors, I am not going to do that today. I took a pair of scissors and I just snip right up the back to form the base body, all the way up to the top. Then, I safety pinned her, put her right over the top of this cylinder of foam and safety pinned. Unless I cut her, it is going to be hard for me to show you, but I safety pinned her shoulders. Lets us just try on there. Safety pin their shoulders right to the cylinder. Here it is.
So that her body would fit right over, I got arms on this one, but in her case, she already had long enough arms that we did not need this. So ignore this arms, they are sticking out, they do not have hands on because I pinned or saw the hands on later. I pulled her all the way down, over top and safety pin or you could saw her over this body. Then I added legs. Now, there are two sizes of legs. For the adult puppets is this size. And let us go to the work room right now and see how we made this legs.
The hand and arm pattern is on the same sheet that I will send to you with the mouth. Keep in touch with the mouth pattern. Now, if you want smaller arms, do not forget your copy machines that will reduce things and size, they are just invaluable. While you cut the pattern out and it is very simple. Be sure to make it longer or shorter. Two of the patterns, you lay it out. I just did some short ones here on a double piece of cloth with the face inside and pin it together and then stitch it right around the lines and then cut it out, say a quarter of an inch be on lines and then reverse it.
Turn it inside out, just like a glove and then, if you want to have the fingers to be possible, then you can use some a piece of some wires, some wire and you fold it over and then what you do in essence is, line with wire all the way around there. It takes some doing but a lot of my hands instead of going like this, the puppet will push their hands by putting the wire. If they bend the head at time and then get wire and put it around like that on the inside. Then we are up today is stuff with polyester fiber after that and then.
