Hi, I am Barbara Dewey. Welcome to my show. The series that we are having right now is called “How to be a Better Teacher or Entertainer or Both,” because if you are teaching then you are an entertainer, and if you are an entertainer you are also a teacher. Today our topic is how to make puppets and ventriloquist speakers from stuff toys, but what I do with each of one of these stuff toys is measure a half our bag.
I take a piece of cardboard and measure it with four guard here; I measured exactly the size of the mouth that I should be putting inside with the foam. I got pocket on the top and a pocket underneath again; you see I have this little pink tongue that I made and a little black palette too, glued inside on top of this belt.
You learn as you try, just start practicing; trial and error, and then put the foam around and glued it all the way around. Well, I found that it tool me an awful long time to make the foam base for the whole puppet, and it seems that there will be an easier way to do it, and so what I did when I had the stuff toy, I stop making that foam interior, because the body is already stuffed with mostly polyester, fiber fill.
And so, what I did then was; actually it was Pink Panther. A pink panther, of course never talks on television, so he did not really need a mouth, but it is hard to manipulate. I got this at a fair although I have the address, where you can buy these so send me a double stamp, business size, self address envelope, I will send you the address where you can buy that Pink Panther and Bugs Bunny; someday I am going to show you these characters.
So, what I did when I took this head of these Styrofoam balls, which are not the best things to have, but that is what they are stuffed with. I have the Pink Panther so he can wrap his legs around me which looks great naturally because they got wires. This different sizes; I have seen them at K-Mart with different sizes, but this is the biggest one. So, what I did back here was take one of the socks that got left by his mate, you know, a blue sock and; you see.
So, this centered; some of these are stuffing out so I sewed that in. Now, like I said with Pink Panther, he does not have to have a mouth, so I just took enough stuffing out and add that sock inside, so I can put my hand up inside his head. So, he has got a Pink Panther puppet too and we do a pantomiming things like,

There are all kinds of things that you can do with the Pink Panther. The children just love to see him, because he is so cute, he can play the theme song. But that was the first step with putting a sock inside so that you do not really have to do that foam base part, and like I said Pink Panther does not need a mouth, right, wrong, right.
So, let us look at Bugs Bunny now and see because he needs a mouth, he has got a big mouth.
