How to Make Radish Roses for Garnish
Hi, here’s a Betty’s quick tip. Have you ever needed a garnish for your serving plate?
Why not try radish roses.
Right here, I have a coup of radishes. And I have to start of some roses right here. This is
just a regular radish that comes from your cellophane bag from the produce section at
your grocery store and you can see the root part is down here. And there’s a little bit of a
tip, you need to take a paring knife, and just cut the top in and cut the bottom end. That’s
very easy.
Then, if you want my first style of radish rose just start going to the edge slicing
downward, but not all the way through. And then come parallel, to the do the same thing,
just be very gentle and easy and careful with your knife, and continue until you’re all the
way across.
Then that will go in some water, and into that water, goes some ice cubes. And then we’ll
think about the other one. You can see the other one is a little more elaborate, so if I have
more to continue then—supposed I have this all the way done then I just turn it, so I’m
cutting in the opposite direction doing the same thing just going almost to the bottom and
not quite.
So you can see this one has been cut in both directions, and that’s what the head of it
looks like. What will happen with these two and I’ll put a lot more in here. What will
happen with those is hat they will open up. And they will make a nice rose, and they will
be colorful on your plate because they are red and white.
We’re going to continue with our tip for radish roses. These have been in this container
with ice water overnight in the refrigerator. And when I have taken them out, a couple of
them to show you, we have the one type that we cut in one direction. And the open sun
makes the rose, rosebud, and if we cut them in both directions we have this, nice look for
each one of them, and it will spice up your plate a little bit.
