Hi and welcome to Elle's Do it yourself. I am Fashion Bookings editor Malina Joseph, and this week we are going to tackle a big trend for spring, and even bigger trend for fall, and that is homemade shoulder pads.
I have these shoulder pads. So today we are going to replicate these shoulder pads which may seem very ordinary. We have got these shoulder pads here with a little bit more flattened, kind of gradually go up, and we give it a little bit of a rounder one, and a typical shoulder that you will find on vintage Elle's dresses, and all you need is a basic needle and thread, and a small stitch just to make sure that both ends are secure on top and the bottom. I'm picking old nylon stocking grab one at a drug store. You take the shoulder pad and cut the stocking at the knee, basically stuff it in, and then you can just hand stitch here, even just tuck it in.
Here we have Johanna, she will be my model today, and we went to the closet and we have found this, a simple chiffon blouse with a bow tied in the back, and it is from Wal-mart and it's $7. We can make this look like $5000 blouse, just by simply adding the shoulder pad. So we are going to -- and of course, if you don't want to have such an avant garde looking, that's not your taste, you can remove different layers and create in size, small, medium and large, of course, all these shoulder pads to fit into your wardrobe and lifestyle.
