Hi, welcome to Craftster Quickies where we show you fast, easy and great looking projects you can make in just a matter of minutes. My name is Pam and today we’re working with shrinky plastic. I love working with this medium. It brings me back to my childhood. It’s a great project for the young and young at heart.
The materials you’ll need today are blank shrinky plastic paper, these come in a variety of textures and colors. You can find them at local crafts stores or online. Images to copy, you can find these in coloring books, online, or clip art. Pencils and magic markers, Make sure that you use colored pencils and not crayons. And permanent magic markers not water colors. Oven, today I’m using a toaster oven, which is preferable but you can use your regular kitchen oven. A cookie sheet, a brown paper bag, some household items, our hole punch, scissors and needle nosed pliers and findings. Now let’s clear the table so I can get started.
Caution, this oven is hot. Always use adult supervision. You don’t want to burn your panties. First thing you want to do is find an image. I’m going to do these cute little cherries. You also want to decide what kind of paper you want to use. I’m going to use the kind that’s frosted, which is rough on one side and smooth on the other side. The next thing you want to do is take your image and place and put your paper over the top, smooth side facing the image, rough side facing you, or facing up. Take a permanent magic marker or a pencil and begin to trace.
Okay, I have my image traced and now I’m going to color it in with pencils. Remember, not to use crayons, because they can melt when you cook them.
So I finished coloring my image and it looks like this. You can make it darker if you want to. Now, I’m going to cut it out. I’ll take these scissors, and start cutting. Remember to leave a little bit of the top if you want a hole punched. I finished cutting my image, and I’m going to make it into a necklace. So I’m going to take my hole punch and hole punch about one eight of the way in. and there. I have my cute image, ready to make a necklace.
Now the next thing I’m going to do is preheat my oven to 325. While your oven’s preheating, you can cut out your brown paper bag. I cut this out to fit the cookie sheet. So I’m putting my image in the oven now. Smooth side down, frosted side up. And watch it cook. How neat. It curls up and then it will flatten right back up. It takes about 30 seconds.
So it’s done cooking, I’m going to let it cool for about 10 minutes before I take it out of the oven and make my necklace. Have to wait. Now it’s cool, and I’, going to make my necklace.
So magically out of nowhere appears my chain, and my jump ring. So I’m going to take my jump ring and attach it to my necklace with the hole that I made. Close the jump ring, open up my necklace, and there you go. Shrinky plastics are so much fun and so versatile. From bracelets, to wine charms, to necklaces, and everything in between. They’re a great craft for the whole family. This is Pam with Craftster Quickies, see you next time.
