I thought you are going to need some poly foam and so a likely source would be an arts and crafts store where I found some wrecked up the package a guide store. This is what the half-inch foam looks like. This was a single bed mattress topper. This is what the same thing for one inch foam because that is what happens to this one inch. I have right likely had been like the one inch because it makes the carpet a lot fuller, you can do either one.
If you would like, I will send you a free pattern of the head that I am going to show you today which it would mean you will send a double stamped business size self-addressed envelope to Barbara Ewing 731 North State Alma Michigan 48801 at this time you might like start recording in different directions because at this point I do not have any directions on my head and I really should do that to take some time off to do that for you. But that way you will know how to make a puppet.
Well first of all, you are going to cut some foam. I am going to show you first of all, the big size now if you want a smaller sized puppet. You can reduce the puppet pattern by a copier machine but you cut it out and you lay out your pattern and on the foam and dot around it with a marker and you do the same with the sheet. I told you before that the puppets will rise, if you do not have to covering at the top, so sheet, some kind of a sheet or material, just plain material that you could set on the other side. My favorite thing to use is a hot glue gun. Something else that you can use is contact cement. The hot look will work a lot better than the contact cement. Again, I have mentioned that magic milk by crafty is it natural hot to the touch when you are gluing.
All right now, the hut with hot glue gun you glue the notch together. Let us start at the back, let me show you on the smaller size. We have done all the same thing on the smaller size, so you would know, I have left this part unglued. The notches together at the top are glued and then together around the face, so you do not glue the mouth together. The chin together, the front of head together, and the back of the head together, leave this part where you get the room for the opening in this part is left undone. I did do this, this was done by Cathy. My producer’s wife who is a really good craftsman and she has been helping me with this heads.
Okay now, one way that you can do the covering, the new covering to saw to and one way that you can do it is by using cloth like tight top on the cloth covered poly foam puppets. But, you do not have to that when you are doing a soft sculpture puppet and I will show you why. You can cut out a piece of felt or a heavier piece of material and glue it to the foam in place of having the covering which is a lot easier than a person does not have to use a sewing machine at all, which is nice. For people that do not have a machine.
So, the next thing we are going to worry about is the mouth. Now again, when you write for the free pattern I want to send you the mouth pattern and arm pattern, and also the leg pattern. So, just be sure to send a double stamped business size self-addressed envelope to my address and what you do is to use some plain crystal board with the mouth pattern, trace it and turn it over. On the inside, note a piece of felt to make the cardboard more sturdy and also the two lines in the middle so that we got a little action like that, come from a ruler and a pen marked on the pattern, you score means you run your pen or sharp object back and forth until it is ready bend with the little scouring like there.
