Start cutting to make one piece, cut all the way through then you get a single piece and you get the toe off. You can double, if you want it double now with this you probably do not need to do with this heavier cloth. You can make it single and there are several ways that you can do this. There is an experimented and I have experimented too but you can use two different ways, at first she was making them over the top and then joining at the sides, that is one way. Another way when the puppet heads were bigger, I am going to show you these sample heads. Over the front and then it would reach, so then another piece joining on the back and the seams would be on the side like, let me see which one here, white piece on the front and another piece on the back and hand stitched all the way around on the back side. And, a lot of them are doubled because if they are double then the fiber foam does not show as much, it is smoother.
Then two the poly that you can use, this kind of polyester fiber fill but it is just a little bit lumpy. It is okay for some of these character puppets that I really have been finding that this batting is to a lot smoother for the pretty girls and Peggy and you want the puppets to look really pretty and that is a lot smoother.
All right, so let us see what we are doing here, you need pins of course scissors. I start generally right back here by the back of the head and start pinning across here. Pinning and stretching and putting in the fiber fills. Now the first kind I am going to show you, the cloth, the nylon goes right inside. You want to do this slowly and I am trying to do it faster. I do not have any issue for this thing now and the hot glue gun, now when you get it where you want it to right there, lift that up and put about three light streaks of hot glue right across the center, not too much and not out too far. Let it dry a little bit and be careful because it burns that is why it is nicer to have a craft that does not burn as badly.
Get your hand inside and hold that until it dries; now you do not put glue here or here with just at very bed to secure it. And I am going to another puppet now so you see where we have done so far. I started back here, took the pins out so you could see but pins across back here and then out of the polyester fiber fill with two nylons, this one is a little bit darker that I unlike, the lighter colors is better and down through here and glued right across there and hold it down here. You can start seeing your features with the pins, I just stuck some pins in there, one for a dimple here, one for a little dimple there and the little lip. If you cannot do this you might be able to find someone who is more of a sculptor than you are. You make the bottom part and let someone else help you with the top part.
Then if you are a craftsman, I challenge you that these puppets are beautiful as you can see and I go to arts and crafts stores all the time and I have not seen them and I know that they would sell because I have been asked many times to sell my puppets and of course you get about five cents an hour so I have made a lot of them to sell but I end up keeping them myself that is one the reasons why I got so many.
Right now let us look at some of the heads. Like I said, this one here had too much glue. Some of these are just experimental ones where there is too much glue there, so you can see the glue there and this is about an extra section that was added on later at the top with little brown animal eyes with a little white felt here and this was sculptured. Joyce is a real craftsman and you can find someone perhaps that is really good at this type of thing.
