Thanks for stopping by fixmyrecipe.com, I’m Chef Billy Parisi and our next recipe goes to Terrine of Colombia, Missouri complaining about her college budget and wanting to make Spanish rice. Seriously though, who puts a can of tomato sauce in rice and calls it Spanish rice? Terrine I got you covered right here.
Terrine, I know you said that your college cooking space is limited but there’s something really easy you can do. Get your pan nice and hot add in your olive oil and then we’re going to sear off this white onions and a little bit of garlic. Terrine, it takes about four or five minutes on a high heat to get a nice caramelization on these onions. Now, let’s add in our Spanish kick; first we’re going to add some canned diced tomatoes and next thing we’re going to add is a little Spanish style tomato sauce, this is going to add that little zing you’ve been looking for. And last we’re going to add a little oregano for a little bit of spice.
Alright now we want to infuse all these flavors so we’re going to simply simmer it back on the heat. Now I know about being in college, your life is always on the go so I have a really awesome solution to save you some time. This Uncle Ben’s rice in a bag are awesome, you’re going to get a ton of flavor and it’s also really cheap. You kind of want to break it up, Terrine, so the rice isn’t chunky, flip off the top here, put to the side, you got a minute and thirty seconds in the microwave, doesn’t get any better than that. Man that was fast, get our rice out of here, we’re simply going to pour it right into our pan.
Alright, just get it on our little plate here and I got to sample it, it smells absolutely wonderful. I know it’s better than that can of tomato sauce you’ve been using. Terrine, mucho savor, this is very good and I did it all for under 6 dollars and so can you. Don’t forget, use that bag of rice, who cares, no one’s looking at you and you need something quick. Try that Spanish style tomato sauce, little bit of canned diced tomatoes and oregano, and you’re going to love the flavors that this brings.
