For all those whining because they don't want to Google the questions he didn't answer... 1) You can store them in a mason jar on the counter. If you just leave them sitting open, they'll absorb moisture from the surrounding air and eventually start to rot. 2) You can store them in oil but you must keep them refrigerated if you do, and you need to eat them within 2 weeks. 3) You can freeze them, however, the whole point of drying food is so you don't have to freeze it 4) If you want to dry them in the sun, knock yourself out. It'll take a few days, you'll have to protect them from bugs and dirt (an impossibility where I live given the wind), and you'll need to bring them in at night to avoid them soaking up moisture from the early morning air. Personally, I think the time I wasted "sun drying" them vs using my dehydrator could have been put to better uses. 5) You can also cold smoke them until they're dried for an entirely different taste. (chipoltes are just smoked, dried ja

"Should they be stored in an airtight container?" No , put them in a shoe in your dog's cage.

What whiny comments. "I want to make sun dried tomatoes in the sun". Go ahead. What's that comment even mean? You need instructions? Step one: put tomatoes in the sun. Done. Need more instruction? There are about 900 billion web pages. I'm sure if you use a search engine you can find more than just this guy's attempt to share some knowledge. You can store in oil. Or you can freeze. Oil will help preserve them. I'm not certain but I'm fairly sure you can even jar them if you have a Ball or other mason jar.
