Welcome to tinkernut.com videos cast. In this video, I will show you how to make an air-conditioner for under $40.00. For this project, you will need a fountain pump, a Styrofoam cooler, quarter-inch copper tubing, some zip ties or some wire and of course, a fan. So let us get started.
Let’s get started
The first thing you will need to do is take the Styrofoam cooler and place the pump inside of it then measure from the top of the pump to the top of the Styrofoam cooler, take that measurement and mark it on the copper tubing. Then from that mark, place it at the base of the fan and start wrapping the rest of the copper tubing around the back of the fan and be sure to use the wire or the zip ties to fasten as you wrap it around the fan.
Then when you are through with the back of the fan, flip the fan over and start wrapping the copper tubing around the front of the fan. And also make that you fasten it firmly with the use of the wire or the zip ties.
Now when you are through wrapping the tubing around the fan, using the excess copper tubing you can swirl it around and kind of make a stand out of it that sticks in the bottom of the cooler. Now if you do have copper tubing cutters which are about six seers. You can also use that to just cut off the excess.
Now which we want to do is measure from pipe to pipe and then take that measurement and put it on the top of the Styrofoam lid. And then use those measurements to make wholes for the pipes to fit in to. After you have the fan on the lid, what you want to do is take the pump and if you got it for more wattage you come with a quarter inch adapter. You can take that quarter inch adapter and either hot glue it or using plumbers glue to attach it to the copper tubing. I actually had a fitting on that I attached, the quarter inch adapter tube and then I just put that fitting on to the copper tubing.
Next that you can do is put the pump into the cooler and drape the core over the side. And then what you wan to do is you take a utility knife or some other type of knife and cut notch out of it so that the cord can sit into it. Now all you need to do is take the pump and place the adapter into the pump and then put the lid on top of the cooler and there you go. Just make sure it fits and make sure it looks nice. Then all you need to do is fill it up with some ice water and plug it in.
