Wine v1.0
By Tom Corbett
Hi I am Tom Corbett from the University of Plymouth and today I am going to show you how to make wine from household items. You have heard me correctly. I said household items. So, why is it useful? Well, you may not want to put off your money or you got a party and you need to buy or provide a lot of alcohol or cheap alcohol for people and whatever your reason, with a little planning, you can produce your very own wine and this is how.
System Requirements
Right! To make your wine, you are going to need to follow in: three cartons of grape juice, two liters of water, cup of sugar, it is an ordinary baker’s yeast, five liter bottle, a balloon, and a pin.
Installation Stage 1
In the first step, you need to do is to pour three cartons of grape juice into bottle.
[Demo]
Right! Once you have done that, we add the two liters of water.
[Demo]
Once that it is done, you need to put the lid on. You need to give it a good shake.
[Demo]
Installation Stage 2
Okay. Second step is you need to add the cup of sugar.
[Demo]
You need to put the lid back on. You need to get another shake to make sure none or the sugar settles on the bottom.
[Demo]
Installation Stage 3
Third, add your yeast at the bottle.
[Demo]
And again you also need to put the lid back on and shake that.
[Demo]
We advice before you add the yeast that you hydrate it in a small amount of warm water then add a small amount of sugar, once it begins to foam up add it straight to the fermentation bottle and tighten lid and shake vigorously.
It is important that once you complete this step, you move straight onto the next stage.
Installation Stage 4
Okay! Once you put the yeast, you need to put in – use your pin and put holes on your balloon.
[Demo]
Once you have done that you need to put the balloon on top of the bottle neck.
[Demo]
And then you need to put your bottle not after direct sunlight but somewhere quite warm and leave it for about two and a half weeks.
This is the initial stage complete. Within 12 hours, you will see that the bottle has begun fizzing. This is the yeast at work and the gases are released through the pins made in the balloon. When the balloon is no longer inflated, usually after 2/3 weeks we can move onto the next stage.
Once primary fermentation has stopped, the alcohol content should be sufficient for you to get a good buzz from the wine. If you want to improve the taste, though, you will nee to let it sit for a month of two before drinking it. If you really want it to taste good, transfer it from the current container into another container, making sure to leave all of the gunk in the bottom of the previous container. To get the wine out without disturbing the dregs too much, siphon the wine out!
You should now have two drinkable bottle of wine. Now, you are welcome to vary the recipe and experiment. Detailed explanation of making wine and beer on the website; other variations of the beverages will also be uploaded.
