Hi and welcome to watchmojo.com, my name is Sam Arvek and I will be your host today. This is the Bartending 101 course for all of you aspiring bartenders out there, and I’m going to teach you how make drinks, how to pour them, how to spout.
Most important thing in making a good drink is making it right with the right proportions. To do that, you need certain things to measure the amount of alcohol you put in it. Every drink has at least one ounce of alcohol in it, and these four things here, measure them. If two fix spouts with two different colors on them, which I will explain in a moment, and you free port spout and a jigger. Jigger come in different shapes and sizes, but again they all hold at least one ounce. How this two work, the fix pour is there’s two ball bearings inside and the amount of alcohol it comes out is indicated by the color. This one is an ounce and a half and this one is a quarter of an ounce. As you pour it, the ball bearing slips forward and lets the alcohol come out.
To get what you need for bartending, it costs you around $40.00. That’s going to get you your shaker, your glass, your jigger, your spoon, and a lot of your measuring spouts. Your shaker is generally, what you use to make your drinks in it, and there’s different shakers. This one, you don’t need a glass for you, put your alcohol on the shaker, and shake it up. This one on the other hand you're going to need a glass for it. Put it on the top and you shake it out, and when you’re finished, you strain it. The strainer in a particular is for making martini, is specially the classic professional way, you don’t want chunks of ice in your martini, people will complain. Every drink you make should come with ice your alcohol, your chasers, and your garnish, your mixers.
Here is how to prepare at least one garnish, it's a lime, and it’s pretty simple. Cut off the two ends of your lime, cut it down in the middle. The most important especially if you're bartending for real is you want to cut down just about halfway, that’s going to allow you to put it on the glass. Anything you need to know is what the glasses are called and what drinks go in them.
Here is a cocktail glass or martini glass; this is an old fashion glass to put whiskey or something neat. This is as close you get to a snifter. Put something like Grand Marnier in here, and lastly a beer glass should be frustrating. Most people don’t know it but the most important thing about making a drink is the ice. You want to fill up your glass as much as possible. When you’re bent over vomiting in the side of the street, it’s not because of the alcohol you had, it’s because of the mix you had in your drink.
The more ice you have the less mix you have.
