Hi! I’m Sandy with Afloral and today we’re going to show you how to make boutonnieres. We’re going to make a single flower boutonniere, a double flower boutonniere and a triple flower boutonniere. Let's start with this lovely rose. We’re going to cut the rose off the stem and I usually use my fingers about three fingers, make a good length for a boutonniere. Then we’ve got some floral stem thing. This isn’t sticky but if you stretch it, it will stick to itself and we’re going to wrap that around the stem. Usually, I increase it with my thumbnail and hold the tape still angled down and spin the flower. And that makes it looks so lovely not like a plastic flower stem. We want this to look as real as possible.
Then from the stem, I’ve taken a leaf and we’re going to put that rose leaf right up behind the rose boutonniere. Again, this will make it look as realistic as possible. Use that tape and spin it right around and look how nice and how quick, a single flower boutonniere is. Now, you just get a boutonniere pin, pin it onto lapel, your all set.
Let’s look at a double flower boutonniere. This time we’ll use two roses. I’ve got a smaller rose. We’ll again cut it off the main stem. We’re going to use some of the floral stem tape and cover up the plastics down, fold it over, twist the flower, hold the tape still. We’ll tape them both, fold it over, twist. You want this to be as tight as possible. We’re going to put the flowers together, one below the other and you’ll see we’re going to angle it a little bit, kind of a 45-degree angle and you can take those together.
I’m using the darker green floral. It does come in a lighter green. We’ll use that later. Again, twist. We still need some greenery behind here and the leaves come right on the stem so why not use them. Put the leaf up behind the roses and wrap with this floral stem tape. You better buy a couple of rolls of this, we use it a lot. Again, measure with your fingers about three finger lengths and cut off and it isn’t that lovely, a double flower boutonniere.
Now it's time for a triple flower boutonniere and you’re probably thinking, “well, won’t that be so big?” But no, because we’re going to use a beautiful small wedding flower. This one has no stem at all so we need to add one and we’re going to take a piece of 26-gauge wire and this time I’m going to use the lighter green floral tape, give it a little stretch, not too far or you’ll break it, wrap it around, crease it with your nail and then twist.
Now, we have to add a leaf behind each one of these but this didn’t come with a very beautiful leaves. So we have this—corsage and boutonniere leaves that you can buy separately and we’re going to put one behind each flower. Yu can do this all together but I think if you do it one at time, it makes it easier. One, leaf, one flower and this time, I chose the light green tape because the leaves and the stems of the Stephanotis are little lighter color. We’re going to start out with one flower up in the center, one off to the left and another one off to the right.
Again, they’ll be angled just a little bit but the three together, add a little tape and measure it with three fingers, cut off the extra layers and isn’t that beautiful. The three boutonnieres, three different styles. Have fun.
