Speaker: Okay, so what we are going to do is we are going to make the easiest type of sushi, a Californian.
Here are some of the things you are going to need.
Sushi rice, avocado, crab and cucumber, and also seaweed sheets, sesame seeds and mayo. Everything here you can find in your local grocery.
I like to work with food preparation gloves the reason for this is it's cleaner and you don't get rice on your hands.
All you have to do, dab a little mayo on the gloves and you create a non-stick surface for you to work with, that's pretty much all we need the mayo for.
So the first thing you want to do is you want to grout boiled rice about the size of your hand, and form it into a log like that.
Take your sushi sheet, now you will notice that the seaweed sheet has one side that's shiny and one side that's dull, and we are going to work with the dull side. Place the dull side down. What you want to do is lay the rice right down in the middle, like so, and now what you want to do is spread the rice evenly.
You don't want to press too hard, if you press too hard it becomes very gummy and gooey, you don't want to do that.
Once you've got it across all the areas of the sushi sheet pull those sesame seeds on. Sesame's on, alright. Now flip it over. First thing we want to lay down is the avocado. The reason we put the avocado first is because the avocado sticks and if you put the crab on first they will slide around the crab.
Next thing we want to put on is the crab right on top, and notice that we are putting these right in the middle of the sheet, and then finally, we are going to put the cucumber right there.
Alright, now all you have to do is lift and fold. So notice you have a lot of space here and you are going to roll and tuck until you get a nice tight seal.
Alright. You know what you want to do is just bring the mat over, pull it and press down. You form a nice roll. Again, you want to bring the mat over, pull, press down and you have your roll. Move it over to your cutting board, take your knife, slice it directly down the middle, trim the ends, just cut it in the three cuts, six even pieces and you have your roll.
